Servicing a New PAM

I've ordered a PAM177 from ChazingTime and got my QC pics today. Since this is my first PAM, I wanted some advice on service for a new PAM rep. For the Rolex and Omega reps I've purchased, I usually send them to a watchmaker for a movement service and sometimes to install a few gen parts (xtal, dial, hands, bezel insert). What services are recommended on a new PAM? I've also seen mention of replacing selected movement parts to improve reliability.

Also, can anyone recommend a trusted watchmaker for PAM in CONUS?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hello.

The PAM177 has a Chinese 6497 which is inherently very reliable for its price.

You can do a lot of cosmetic modifications (check out Marlin's work for that), but in terms of performance, I would only recommend repossage, lubrication, tuning. And then, considering the cost of movt., in relation to the cost of maintenance, Many people don't even do that, myself included.

This movement does not require any mandatory modifications.

Congrats on your first rep Pam purchase - hopefully you bond with it and become as hooked as the rest of us.

As mentioned the A6497's are surprisingly robust, so I'd just recommend spending the money you'd pay for a full service on a really nice strap. The vast majority of PAM rep straps should be binned immediately and rep Pam's are so much more enjoyable to wear with a nicely made strap. There is a multitude of incredible strap makers who create a vast range of options for the 'Paneristi' at all price levels. You don't always get what you pay for (IMO) so I'd suggest scanning through the 'strap freaks' thread to gain some initial knowledge. The ability to transform a rep Panerai with a strap change can become addicting due to the fact that their typically simple design works with almost any material and color.

Unfortunately gen Panerai parts are very difficult to source compared with Rolex, so finding a gen dial may become a lengthy task. From what I have seen, the cut-out markers on the HWF dials are a little 'chubby' looking in the x10 scale pictures, though on the wrist may look acceptable.

Let us know if you have any questions when you receive the QC pictures - and definitely make sure to post in the wristies thread once you have it.
