@2005 Seadweller .....this might help

I also find looking at the movement at eye level helps rather than from above. Secure the second hand at its centre with some rodico putty (tiny amount) onto the tip of a flat hand press tool and guide it home. (A bergeon dial protector never hurts). And like a Space X vertical landing.....gently does it.
