Hey Guys and Gals
I got my panny 1950 two weeks ago, and have been reading the forum regarding genuine sapphire, exploding mineral, etc. I bought mine from a dealer that had both Asian movm't, and Swiss movm't. The Swiss movm't was marketed with AR coating, obviously Swiss swan neck movement, and sapphire. The Swiss was $110 more than the Asian, and I figured worth the extra dollars. The funny thing is the case serial numbers have the 1 series on the Asian, and the 5 series on the Swiss, if that makes any difference, I don't know because the pictures on the site looked identical to me, and very similar to those sold by dealers on the site. Anywhoo, I did the water test, and to me it looks like sapphire as the bead of water that I dropped on it stayed put, and did not spread/puddle. The watch was clean, no dust, no wax or cleaning supplies on the crystal, other than wiping it down with an eye glass cloth. Here are some pictues, please help determine if it is sapphire or not.
This first picture is of the watch itself. Not bad looking, EH? (oh yeah I am a canuck, so you may se EH once or twice) =)
These next two pictures are of the big drop of water placed on the crystal dead centre, as you can see it is just afte 10:20 this morning.
These final two pictures are at roughly 10:40 this morning, the watch sat on my dresser undisturbed for roughly 20 minutes. To me it looks like the water did not move at all.
Like I said, to me it looks like sapphire because the water remained in a bead and did not move. Compared to pictures of the test done by others it seems like sapphire, but any additional input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone
Pietro
