Sanding Ceramic Bezel Help

Hello everyone, me again! I'm on the last leg of my DSSD build. I've just received a new bezel insert and its to thick. Its proud of the edge of the bezel ring and almost flush with the crystal.
I've tried using sand paper on a flat surface but as the ceramic is harder than the sand, tried wet n dry as well with no luck, I'm getting nowhere fast!

So what are you lads using?

You need a diamond embedded sanding wheel bro.

Dremel needs to be mounted in a vice or similar, you can double stick tape the insert to a die or a block of wood. Take it really slow at first, be gentle. You won't be able to do the whole diameter of the insert at a time. Practice on a junk insert first.

Thanx Mate. So I'm running the bezel over the tool, rather than the tool over the bezel, is that right?

I've just bought this set

As well as the dremel disk you recommended. I like the look of the large round bits, 9, 10 and the 11th along. Look like they'll be useful for this job.

That's how I've done it. I suppose you could do it either way, I find it easier to control a smaller, lighter object and let the heavier tool be anchored. Use thick strong double sided tape on the insert and try not to let it sink into the marker cutouts. Avoid the larger cutouts, apply the tape perpendicular to the bezel curve. Keep the dremel speed slow. You don't have a lot to take off so you're probably OK leaving the pearl on. I've removed a few for mods like this and even sometimes for paint mods.

Well the jobs done :) I used the Dremel extension and the diamond disk. Run the bezel over the flat part of the tool to get the most contact and in the hope it would keep it flat/level. Seems to of worked really well. I should of taken a before image, but I didn't! Anyway the bezel was flush with the crystal, and as you can see, it's not any more. It's just sunk enough that I can catch my nail on the bezel ring, which tells me it sunk below the edge.
Didn't take long, 30mins tops. On a safety note, if you're going to do this I would recommend having a mask on, the ceramic dust that comes off is pretty fine, not sure breathing it in is a good idea, not that there's a lot of it just better to be safe than sorry.

I used a diamond drum sander and did it free hand

Yeah I did it free hand, just kept running it over the diamond disk. Tried it in the watch a few times to make sure it was even. Slow and steady was the order of the day.
I was surprised that it sparked though!

Just wanted to say thanks for this thread! I’ve been trying to figure out to reduce the thickness of a ceramic insert but didn’t know what tools or setup to use. My setup was pretty precarious though since I don’t have a vice/clamp or workbench so I had the rotary tool gorilla taped to the edge of my desk.

Was finally able to fit this lumed ceramic insert nice and flush after shaving off almost 0.75mm:
