hi Guys -what do you think of these "rxw" marina militare watches? Does anyone have one like this??

Are they better quality than the reps in terms of movement and water resistance..

The $200 RXW fakes on eBay? No. A genuine Ken Trading RXW MM20, absolutely (for $1000+ they'd better be  ).

Very interested in this subject but I don't understand. As I asked River, what is RXW? What is Ken Trading?

Google is your friend.

RXW still makes watches, just not the Panerai-esque MM20 and MM10. Panerai sued and shut down RXW's production of the MM20 a while ago. They are reportedly VERY high quality, although I've never handled one in person before...

Thanks Hooligan. Very interesting. So it appears River has one for sale.

Yep, River and a bunch of other folks on bigwatchforum.com.

I haven't seen this many for sale at one time since I first became aware of the brand. That's why I said in River's thread that I wondered if someone had found some new old stock laying around somewhere and now they're on the market.

I thought most people who were Panerai fans knew about the RXW brand? Now you know...

I may be alone here, but in the days of ultimate Fiddy's and other big Pam 47mm rep watches with much better executed case and dial, paying for 1K+ for one of RXW watches even though in their NOS form is simply ludicrous, IMO.

Yes, they used to be "THE Marina Militare Watch" in the days when the 217MM and 127 Fiddy were nowhere to be seen as reps, but today, it's a completely different ball game. I concur and agree with the fact that some people would pay that much for a RXW watch simply for its sentimental value, and what "it used to be" and "used to mean" in the past, but there's not many of us that would do so. We simply know better.

At the end of the day - RXW watch is a REP no less no more than any other 203, 217 232 or 127 Pams, and not very accurate one at that, so please give me a break! 8)

Sorry River, didn't mean to crap on your post...although it ended up being so, and I'm truly sorry for that. :(

It's not that the watch isn't good, far from that, but if you're after well made MM hommage watch, DSN will be more than happy to knock one off for 1/4th the price for anyone here, and believe me, it'll come with better dial txt and no recessed cannon pin

...fancy looking wooden box with extra strap and a screwdriver don't do much for me 8)

cheers,
babola

RXW = Asian

Apparently the original MM20s came with adjusted Swiss ETA movements; well they did, until the Japanese courts shut down the Ken Trading / RXW operation when Panerai filed suit for copyright infringement. For some reason, people on Timezone love 'em, but you can easily find better quality reps if you look hard enough.

That's not the case with any of RXW's latest offerings, especially the "Plasmir Milgraph" series. Same Asian 7750 and Seagull ST-20 movements found in the usual Panerai rep offerings, but the watches are 3x the cost.

There are also a number of "Marina Militare" watches out there that are supposed to be from RXW. They're seen frequently on fleabay, PMWF, and even Timezone. Most of those aren't really from RXW and are, rather, poor Panerai reps that are just missing the word "Panerai" from the dial.

I used to own a MM20. My ultimate fiddy is definitely of equal quality in feel and looks.

So I have to agree with previous posters, the RXW MM20 was a great watch, four years ago. Now, you can get your Panerai fix cheaper elsewhere.

Take care,

forgive me if i'm wrong here but arn't the RXW'S better suited for abuse, by this i mean they can be worn in the water, knocked around and the hands don't fall off, crystal does not explode, unlike some of the reps around

The gen MM20 has a WR rating of 100m, I believe. That should be pretty easily attainable for most quality reps, but it will require additional work/testing (and additional $$).

To say that ANY rep is as good as a gen MM20 is obviously wrong. From owners' reports, to say that the gen MM20 is better than any rep, is also wrong.

My guess is that the fit/finish on the gen MM20s is probably nicer than any of the reps, if you get really picky about things. The gen gives you 100m WR right out of the box. The gen gives you genuine anti-magnetic protection (1000 gauss, I think) and I'm certain the movement is a bit more accurate out of the box than most (all?) reps.

Most of the benefits listed above can be achieved with a rep, but at additional work/expense. Probably still no where near $1K, even after it's all said and done.
