Hi members. Been a lurker for a while here and speaking to some TDs about my first rep.

Can folks advise the best way to pay for a rep that gives the buyer the best refund protection in case some disaster happens like TD gets run over by bus after payment and watch never arrives? If a TD does not accept a one time Visa card, is PayPal best alternative even if it has to be a friends and family transfer? Just looking to cover all bases etc but sure all will go smoothly with one of the TDs here. Thanks for any advice on this and a newbie question I know.

Doubt you'll be able to use Paypal. These are Trusted Dealers for a reason. Your doomsday scenario is unlikely but that could happen with any retail sale. Credit Card or Bank Wire will most likely be your options.

Wise, WU or Direct Transfer. Some TDs give a discount for Direct Transfer. I tend to use Wise as the cheapest and very simple, efficient option.

Thanks p0pperini. Never used Wise - would there be any kind of payment protection in the event of a doomsday scenario with Wise?

You should probably order something off Amazon instead if you’re that concerned about payment protection.

The thing is, any method with "protection" tends to be the sort of option favoured by scammers who receive their rep and then fraudulently claim their money back. Which is why most of the TDs don't do PayPal, because they've been on the receiving end of scams perpetrated by dishonest customers, which then has a massively negative knock-on for the TD (PP freezing their accounts, etc.).

So, everyone accepts that there's a very, very small risk when you buy a rep. But that risk is absolutely minimised if you go with a TD. In my time here, I've yet to hear of any member experiencing the doomsday scenario that concerns you.

But do be aware - I have heard of watches arriving with faults, watches seized by customs (TDs routinely replace these, so no harm but delayed receipt of the watch) and also plenty of watches up for Catch and Release sale because the buyer discovered their purchase wasn't their cup of tea.

In other words, there are far more mundane things that are likely to go wrong with the purchase of a rep watch, than the doomsday scenario.

No TD here is going to ghost you if that your concern. Some TDs do offer PayPal Goods & Services after you've built a relationship with them or have a good history here on RWI though.

Due to the nature of this game there isnt really any buyer protection financially except the faith in buying from your trusted dealer. It can be a bit nerve racking for your first purchase but thats why they are the listed as TD's.

There's no real protection even if using PayPal. Plus you wouldn't want to argue about buying a replica with PayPal.

Hence, I'd suggest for the option with the lowest fees. Some TDs accept crypto or wise. Both usually have a discount either issued by the TD or by wise (make sure to let your friends invite you).

Alternatively, you can pay via taobao/alipay with revolut.
