Rusting omega

Bought an Omega seamaster 300m professional, everything looked great and felt great aside from a dodgy spring in the H3 release meaning it doesn't unscrew. However, within 2-3 weeks (not washing, maybe getting splashed when washing hands etc) the watch has started to rust in every nook and cranny. Emailed pictures over to Alice who agrees it is really bad but the solution offered was for me to buy rust remover. The watch was advertised as stainless steel not mild steel and I really don't think a daily dunk and scrub in rusteze is a fair solution for me as the customer, am I being a Karen or should I have expected the materials specified in the description?

Unfortunately you are buying counterfeit goods they will never be as good as the real thing. Sometimes things happen. What ever you do, do not send it back to china your end up having it confiscated. I would say give it a clean up, and maybe someone here can help with how to prevent this via some kind of coating.

I would guess it’s not the watch that’s rusting…maybe the spring under the bezel? Spring bars?

Do you have photos?

It's literally every screw point, in between links and in between the case and the rear crystal, if it was sold as mild steel I wouldn't have bought it though, even for a replica that is just criminal. It's not their fault but as the dealer it is definitely their responsibility to sort out and not for me to carry wd40 around in my bag!

It was sold as stainless steel though, that's not very trustworthy of a TD...

do you have photos?

VSF is a solid factory and the TD is an intermediary. They cannot know when they get the watch.

is it only the bracelet or the watch head too?

This poster smells super fishy.

@twatch2
please post pics and a screen where Alice tells you to use rust remover.

I have dealt with Alice. She does not let a bad watch get out of her hands.

Unfortunately, this is in line with a lot of posts by newbies lately.

OP, please post photos of the damage. Stainless steel doesn't develop corrosion just like that. If you want the help of the community, the first thing you should do is provide proof.

New account and a fishy storry aside - if (and I say IF) there's any truth to this story, I'd be sad if any TD would give me a solution like that. With so many watches dispatched from the TDs, I personally would expect that occasionally they would accept the loss on a subpar watch like that (upon proof of course) as they are also willing to accept the loss for customs issues. That being said, the story itself is even less plausible I guess.

I want to believe him, but I have a very hard time thinking a factory used a mild steel to make the watch. I guess it's possible a mild steel got through in a batch made, but I've never heard of it.

I know if it happened to me, I wouldn't leave the community on a cliff hanger...

Well, I guess I have to do this...

The verdict:

Well, I have concluded (in my very reliable imagination) that your Omega isn't actually rusty.

😅

All joking aside, are you going to prove your claimed damage with photos? If not, I would kindly ask you to please refrain from thread-crapping other users' threads with your speculative allegations as long as you refuse to show us the alleged damage of your watch in this thread.

We are glad to help you with your problem, but it's not really possible if you do not post any photos of the supposed damage.
