I picked this sub up a while back. I have been thinking about a TC sub as they are just beautiful works of art, but I got this one from a member super cheap just to try it out and see it on my wrist to see if I like it as much in person as much as I do looking at pics of one.

I am a super noob when it comes to subs. I know basically nothing except that I like the aesthetics of them and I know the movements. Haven't read much yet, but going to before I decide on which one I will end up getting, but I have decided after wearing this for a couple months now just to work that I do love it. So hopefully by Christmas I will put my order in.

Anyway, I talked to another member the other day about rehauts. I know mine is a really cheap 21j rep, and the rehaut is black as you can see in the pics below. the member I talked to said that if it's black then that's a sign that it's not accurate. I was just wondering if any subs ever did have the rehaut engraving that was black like mine? I actually like it because it really stands out well.

Mine has the etched crown and the sapphire glass which is good,

The crown(coronet?) on the rehaut is lined up with the 12 oclock marker pretty well but just very slightly to the left, but not noticeable except with a loupe or macro pics. as you can see.

The "R" at the 9 oclock hour is slightly to the right of the marker.

The writing on the dial is nice and even and consistent, as far as I can tell, but again, I am no expert.

The pearl is disgusting and ugly.

The bracelet is shiny in the middle link, which someone said also would not be accurate to the gen.

The bezel is ceramic which I like the looks of.

this watch keeps great time and the date changes over exactly at midnight.

The crown unscrews perfectly and winds really nice, sets the time and date very nicely.

The rotor is LOUD. lol

The lume is maybe average I would say. It's better than I expected though when I bought it. It's green, and I've worn it to bed a couple of times. I wake up several times throughout the night, and I always look to see what time it is, and the lume actually lasts just about all night. It is although very very weak in the morning, but it is still bright enough that I can see what time it is surprisingly enough. But it is no where near the caliber of the lume on my explorer 2. That's a whole different ball game.

The bracelet is light weight, much lighter than my explorer 2. and makes some noises as well in the clasp. Doesn't bother me now as I am used to it.

The serial number on the rehaut is the ever famous f437091, which I don't even know if that was an actual number for a gen or not, but I've read that number is often used in cheap reps.

I was told that if the rehaut engraving is black that makes it pretty inacurate, which I don't care on this one. But I actually really do like it that way. I like the way it stands out, and you can see the rehaut plain as day from over a foot away. The letters seem to be well engraved and nice and crisp edges. At least to my untrained eyes.

The date wheel is centered pretty well although today when I took these pics I noticed that the 10 was up a little higher than center. Haven't noticed that with other dates, but I am going to keep a closer eye on that.

The cyclops is just slightly slanted. But I don't notice unless I really study it.

I'm sure there are probably a lot of other things that are off with this watch, but I do like it, and I am sure that I am going to love a TC sub.

THe previous owner wore it for two years and I wear it everyday doing home remodeling, and it still looks and works great.

But as soon as I get home each day I can't wait to put my explorer 2 back on.

Overall, for the price I think this watch is very good. I think you can get it brand new from our TD's for around $118 or so. for somebody for their first rep, I think this would make a great watch, or for someone like me, thinking about spending some bucks on a TC just to get a feel for a sub, this is a good way to go, as it made my mind up on it.

Enjoy the pics. It was a chore taking these pics as I had a bobcat keep trying to get in the pics and get the watch the whole time.

If any of you wouldn't mind commenting about flaws on this watch and especially about the rehaut I really would appreciate it. I like constructive criticism, and I like learning about these watches. I am going to start doing some reading about the subs here soon. i've watched a couple TC videos so far, but will start hitting it hard here soon. So any help is greatly appreciated.

Oh, I forgot to ask..............Who makes the best sub? LMFAO

Enjoy.

Actually, this Sub is not bad at all, George. One day you can shave rehaut enfrawing off, or, if you like it - just wash it in acetone with brush, black paint will disappear.

I cannot tell, but upon closer inspection it may appear that the rehaut is not actually engraved, but maybe just printed on there???? Does anyone know? That would explain the black I guess. The member I talked to the other day didn't say anything about it, but just that it was not accurate. I was wondering how the hell they got black paint so neatly inside all of those engraved letters. I think I may have just figured it out. Am I correct in saying that?

Just saw your post Luthier. So it is just black paint. Thank you.

That was another thing I was wondering. I've been reading a lot of threads about doing mods. Maybe this would be a good candidate for my first attempt?

Thank you

Sure, why not? You're dealing with bobcats, watch is much safer, worth to try.

May be another bob coming in the near future. I would like to get Benji a friend. One of his own kind that can keep up with his energy. He goes and goes and goes and the other animals cannot keep up with him.

The laws are changing here in Ohio in January, and a lot of exotic owners are going to have to give up their animals, so I may rescue one that is given up. Thinking about it. Now that it is just me here 2 bobcats will be nothing.

I absolutely hated the bracelet on my sub. It had the shiny polished link down the middle. I was going to get a new bracelet for it, but decided to try sanding it down. This is my first time doing anything to a watch and I am really pleased. No, it is not perfect, but I am very happy and like the looks much better.

I used 800 and 2000 grit sand paper to do this. I made sure I sanded the same way consistently. It still needs a little more sanding here and there, but almost finished. I just put it back on the watch to see how it looks before I continue. I also did the sides of the links because those were shiny. Next is the movement. I want the 2836 for this watch. So saving up for that.

Tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions. Thanks, George

quick off topic question, how much would a bobcat cost if you were to purchase one?

hsmooth. I tell everyone, the intitial price to buy one is a drop in the bucket compared to how much it will cost caring for them for the rest of their lives.
Price to buy is between $1,500 and $2,500 usually.
Vet bills are at least double what they are for a domestic cat and usually triple the price. For example just to neuter it costs between $600 and $800

Food. they have to eat an all raw diet, including calcium usually by means of eating the bones, or calcium supplements. Chicken is the main part of Benji's diet. In the winter he eats a whole 10 pound chicken in just over a day. In the summer he eats maybe a leg a day and that's it. They have to have all the organ meat also. Food can be very expensive especially in the winter when they eat a ton.

Building an approved enclosure to meet state standards and inspection. Can cost thousands. I got lucky, probably just under a thousand for our enclosure. But I keep adding things to it and also going to double the size of the enclosure too. I added a pond with a pump. built a rock cave for him. Installed a doggy door so he can come in and out when he wants. Also a separate fence outside the enclosure around the perimeter of your yard or just surrounding the enclosure has to be built.

Remodeling your home to accomodate for double door entries at all exit points of your house. Not just a screen door and the door, a whole separate doorway. You enter the house through one door, then you are in a room, they call the lockout room. then there is another doorway you open to get into your house. It is a must with wild animals to prevent escapes. Can be costly. If they escape I must immediately call the police, the dep. of agriculture, and dep of natural resources.

Carpets aren't the greatest thing to have in your house with a bobcat so I ripped them all out throghout my house. Now just hardwood floors, which I like better. But they spray, and they also will tear up carpet. Also no knick knacks of value anywhere. Unless you want them broken. THey break anything and everything they possibly can. All cords to electrical stuff hidden or unplugged when not in use. I have a lot of cords in conduit throughout the house.

So you can see that the initial cost is minor to what all ownership entails. You never stop spending when you have one of these.

Also, a lot of states are requiring training now, thank god, before people can just go out and buy one, and also requiring hands on experience too prior to purchasing one. WHich are the best things they could have done, because way toomany people just went out and bought them with no experience and ended up getting rid of them in just a few days or weeks because it does take experience to be able to handle them and raise them. and 99% of people cannot or will not put up with their behaviors.

It can be quite scary at times honestly, and they do destroy a lot of things, so it's definitely not for everybody. Am I crazy? yes, I am. but I love it and I wouldn't have it any other way. I couldn't imagine life without him. Will I ever get another woman now that mine has left? Doubtful. lmfao. I was very lucky that Michelle shared the same interest and love of these guys that I do, and we both spent a lot of time volunteering at an exotic animal sanctuary.
