My son recently bought a Seiko 6105 homage, I'm looking for a Rolex GMT with a Japanese movement so that I can take the bezel off to make him a Colonel Kurtz copy. Anyone have one or know of a source in the EU?

The seiko gmt movement that is commonly available has a non-centered gmt function. Outside of that I’m not sure what you want to get here, but if you want to throw in a vintage dial there are few providers. Raffles dials comes to mind.

It's just s bit of a joke present so the dial age isnt really that important,it's more the general look I had in mind. And a couple of local watch repairers will work on a generic movement whatevers on the dial, but won't touch a cloned movement.

why not just buy a 1675 rep and pry the bezel off?

Yes but can be swapped for an ETA.

Why's it gotta be japanese, doesn't make sense.

Sorry must be me. I'm looking for a source for a Rolex GMT with a cheap generic movement Japanese movement is best because the watch repairer in my town is a Seiko agent but has worked on a Miyota for me in the past. If there has never been a copy made with that type of movement apologies for wasting your time. If there has, a source would be great thanks.

As far as I know there's no cheap Seiko or Miyota mechanical movement with central GMT hand.
You could buy a GMT Prospex or a Grand Seiko and use the movement but it won't be cheap ... close to USD 5K so really far from cheap to be honest ????

Another way to go is to use a quartz GMT movement ... Ronda 505-24h is Swiss and legit and provides a central GMT hand ... and try to put it in a rep Reolex GMT case ...

Or you could buy a DAVOSA Vintage Diver Quartz, pry off the bezel (IF it's possible), and live with the "weird"dial and handset ...
That watch comes with a quartz Ronda 595-24h ...
The Davosa gmt sounds better than the OceanX sharkmaster as it's 39mm large only ... so same size as Captain Kurtz's 1675 ... than the OceanX which is 42mm large ...

BTW "mr french" ... are you French ?

Watchsmith is watchsmith.

And seiko movements, as stated above, will be much more of a hassle for you.
First, the hands will not fit. Second, the case has to be machined to fit the movement or a movement holder that will have to be custom made also.

As I mentioned best bet, get an asia eta clone movement and replace it with a swiss eta. Hands will fit perfectly, and the function will be the same.

Problem is that to have the GMT function the OP should source an ETA 2893-2 or a SELLITA SW300 ... not impossible but not that easy ... and probably not cheap ...
Even a used Tag calibre 7 (which is, in real, a tag branded 2893-2) is sold about $200 on the bay.

200$ for an ETA movement isn't a lot bro. 500 for a 7750, that's a lot.

I definitely KNOW that :p and YES it woul be the best way to go ...
But the OP specified "CHEAP movement" ...
Add the price of a Rep 1675 to the price of a 2893-2 ... then price of the service (for $200 you won't get a new 2893-2) and the modding ...
You'll end close to $500 more or less ... a little high for a "bit of a joke present" ...

Really depends on what your son is worth to ya lol
I think OP didn't mean "joke", but more as in "a light gesture"

Beautiful. I'm in the process of getting a 116519 and putting gen hands and band on it, to give to my pops.

Given the difficulties listed above, just a sub rep would do the trick as it isn't for close scrutiny. If it has some Wabi all the better.

Hi ... you still can get a BP 1675 GMT from a trusted dealer here ... around $240.
Remove the bezel, rework the crownguards to make them more squared, age thedial and ... hand engrave "M. BRANDO" on the caseback ;)
