Before there was the Submariner there was the Explorer. So I thought what better watch to begin my replica collection than with the iconic Rolex Explorer. It’s a versatile sport watch for a man and makes for a terrific “boyfriend†watch for a woman. It can be worn with its original stainless steel bracelet, on a leather band or a nato strap.
RWI forum member Silverclaw did a very positive review of the 36 mm Explorer I last year that included nine side by side rep vs. gen comparison pictures. He gave the replica high marks with his father’s genuine Rolex Explorer in hand and the consensus of opinion in the comment section was that the Explorer was one of the better replicas available. I was favorably impressed and placed this model high on my list of prospective purchases.
As I have a wrist that’s just a bit shy of 6 inches, I think the 36 mm version is a better fit for me than the newer 39 mm Explorer I. The 36 mm replica, in keeping with genuine Rolex Explorers built before 2005, doesn’t have rehaut engraving. That’s another plus in my book, as I think it gives the watch a cleaner look with one less potential replica flaw.
Having had an excellent experience making a gift purchase through Lucy at True Time 168 previously, I contacted her with the following request:
Rolex Explorer I
Reference #: 114270
Case: Oyster, 316L Stainless Steel, 36 mm
Bezel: Smooth
Dial: Black w/ Arabic and Index Hour Markers
Crystal: Sapphire, LEC at 6 position
Bracelet: Stainless Steel Oyster
Clasp: Flip-lock clasp
Functions: Hours, minutes and seconds
Movement: Automatic, Asian Clone 2836
Lucy got back to me quickly letting me know she had sold both the 36 mm and 39 mm version of the Explorer to many very satisfied customers. I placed my order on January 3, 2015 and the next day I received QC pictures for my watch which can be viewed in a post for the Explorer I in True Time 168’s sales section on this forum. The first seven pictures are of the 39 mm model and the eighth through fifteenth are the actual QC pictures I was sent of my watch, the 36 mm version.
I received the watch on January 29, along with another I purchased from Lucy. I am very pleased with the quality of my new Rolex Explorer and am happy to report that thus far the watch is keeping very accurate time. I can, without reservation, recommend Lucy as a Trusted Dealer and the 36 mm version of the Explorer as great replica choice, especially for those with smaller wrists. Speaking of which, my wrist shot is below.
