Some of you already know that I’ve been getting more into homage watches lately, and I recently picked up the Pagani Design Paul Newman for just €60. It’s a homage to the iconic Rolex Daytona Paul Newman, and I have to say, for the price, it’s a solid piece. The design really nails the vintage "panda" dial look, and at 40mm, it’s just the right size for most wrists.

It comes with a Seiko VK63 meca-quartz movement, which gives you that mechanical chronograph feel without the hassle of maintaining a fully mechanical watch. The chronograph works smoothly, and the watch itself feels pretty solid on the wrist.

I did make a couple of changes to bring it closer to the original Paul Newman Daytona. I swapped out the stainless steel bracelet for a leather strap, which gives it a more authentic, vintage vibe. I’m also planning to replace the black ceramic bezel with a silver one to get even closer to that classic look.

I also find the gimmick with the engraved car and checkered race flag on the back amusing. It’s a fun little detail that adds character to the watch.

But at the end of the day, it’s important to remember that this is a homage watch—not a rep, and certainly not a gen. Still, it’s a fun, stylish piece that captures the spirit of the original.

That's very cool for the price. If you ever have the movement out, I'm very interested in what the dial diameter is. Hah, you know what I'm thinking.

Nice write up, thanks for sharing.

Lovely homage!

What does the SS bracelet look like?
Thanks!

Those are the pictures from the official pagani Design Webseite.

The stainless steel (SS) bracelet that comes with the Pagani Design Paul Newman is decent for the price. It has an Oyster-style design with solid end links, which is a nice touch. However, it does feel a bit stiff out of the box and isn’t as refined as higher-end bracelets. The clasp is functional but not particularly impressive. Overall, it’s comfortable to wear and definitely better than bracelets in the past from pd, but I personally swapped it out for a leather strap to get closer to the vintage Paul Newman look.

The SS bracelet looks nice but your leather strap is nicer.

I’ll be swapping the case soon once the new one arrives. I can definitely let you know the size of the dial then! ;)

the subdial at 3 actually counting the 24 h...very very sad.
do you know if there is in the world one quartz movement able to make it count the chrono hours ??
I see tons and tons of watches with the dial at 3 counting the 24 hours...awful and don't understand why.

I understand your frustration. It's disappointing when a subdial is used for 24-hour time instead of counting chrono hours. Unfortunately, many quartz movements prioritize cost and simplicity, leading to this common setup.

However, there are quartz movements like the **Seiko VK64** meca-quartz that offer a more traditional chronograph function, with subdials counting chrono hours and minutes.

If you're looking for watches with these movements, check out the **Undone Urban Vintage Chronograph**, **Spinnaker Cahill Chronograph**, **Nezumi Voiture**, **Bulova Lunar Pilot**, or the **Zeppelin Silver Line Chronograph**. These models offer better chronograph functionality without sacrificing design.

Quick update: It took a while because I initially bought the wrong case size, but I’ve now replaced the case with the black bezel for a silver one.
