The Rolex Chronograph 6234 is a forerunner of the Rolex Daytona and was launched in 1955. The following 3 photos of gen watches are from Stefano Mazzariol's Blog:
I liked the vintage look of this watch so much that I had to by buy both, one with the black and one with the white dial.
Our TDs sell this watch with the trusted ST-19 hand-wound movement. The 37mm case is the same that the Cartel uses for their famous vintage Daytonas 6239,06241, 6263, 6265 etc. In fact, "6263" is stamped between the lugs.
The problem is that the lugs of this Daytona case are much longer and more pointed that the lugs of the gen 6234 case. For comparison look at the unmodded 6234 just after I received (I only substituted the metal bracelet with a leather band):
Apart from the difference in the lugs you will also notice the thick clumsy subdial hands which appear to be out of proportion. Eagle eyes will detect that the indicator at 2 o'clock is misplaced and needs some rotation.
To correct these flaws I asked for the services of modder Kenny from next door. He had done some work for me already in the past. I had sourced the thinner, more elegant subdial hands, and two new Clark tropic crystals. For only a few dollars, those plexi always work wonder.
But most of the work consisted in shortening the lugs and make them look more blunt like the gen lugs.
Here the result:
Hence, with only a few mods this watch can be transformed into a beautiful and quite gen-like vintage piece. The next step could be some aging...
