I've got a gen Rolex Cellini 3804 which I love, but have always wondered why the Cellinis get so much hate!

They're such a classy watch, particularly the Cellini's with the champagne dial.

It was actually the Cellini that got me hooked on luxury watches.

I remember as a kid knowing nothing about watches going to Rolex website. The Cellini Moonphase was the watch I thought was the coolest most luxurious watch by far. Know I am into sport watches.

As i stated in another thread, the Cellini is so more beatiful than the new 1908 .

How beatiful the Cellini - especially moonphase - is and how bland and unispired the 1908 is

Don't mind the black dial 1908. And it's unfair to compare a plain seconds @6 watch with a watch with date and moon complications. De gustibus, i like both.

I think it depends on the model. I rather liked the Cellini but have to admit they did flub a more than a few of the designs over the years. I also will point out the lack of white gold options. The 1908 has a lot of classic Cellini dna as well some older models of non oyster dressier models from back in the day.
Always wanted something like this in the collection. https://raymondleejewelers.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Cellini-2.jpg

Not to knock the Cellini but it's because at the price it is at it competes strongly against many other dress watches and brands that Rolex can't handle. You can get Vintage Patek and other great brands at the price. Or you can get a second hand...

I suspect 1908 will be the same. Would you take a Calatrava/Patrimony/Saxonia or a 1908?

I can pass on the Calatrava and Patrimony for the most part but I do agree the Saxonia are real lookers.

Ya definitely, the 1908 is so boring. That moonphase is *𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘧𝘴 𝘬𝘪𝘴𝘴*

I definitely would choose many other watches over the 1908. However, definitely some of the other Cellinis are beautiful.

@phelan771 : what an impressive choice !

This is the FIRST Faberge watch i ever see in over 10 years on RWI and other boards...really a classy, fabolous piece !

That crown...the comparison with the Cellini (or worst, with the plain and boring and incredibly PRICEY 1908 ) is a no Brainer, this Faberge is on a different level IMHO.

Is like comparing the Cellini with a AL&S Saxonia....no story.

Yup. When I had the opportunity to purchase the Faberge watch, I told myself that I would be crazy to opt for the Rolex instead.

The Faberge Agathon watch comes with:
1) Frédéric Piguet decorated movement and 72 hours PR
2) Rose Engine guilloche dial and rotor
3) 18k case and strap buckle
4) Sapphire cabochon at the crown and strap buckle (unlike Cartier which uses synthetic sapphire)

To top it all off, the Faberge offer price was lower than the Rolex 1908 RRP!

I just feel like at 30k the cellini moon is just too pricey. I think if it's like 20k and lower people would be more open to it.

Try like 15k or below, 2nd hand Saxonia Thin is 15k ish, vintage Patek Calatrava is 8-10k...
