I posted this one for sale in 2022 and ultimately chickened out!
Here is the withdrawn sales thread with many more detailed photos: https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/rolex-16800-super-franken-conus.10611024/
Since posting it for sale in 2022, I only wore it outside of the house 2-3 times. Unfortunately, one day last year when setting the time, the crown pulled off. I asked for advice in this thread -- https://forum.replica-watch.info/threads/crown-repair-on-high-end-franken.10936673/. I've been super busy and haven't gotten around to finding a local watchmaker to fix it. Consensus on the thread is that it should be an easy fix.
Other than the crown needing to be repaired, the watch is fully functional with no other known issues. The movement is a champ. It keeps good time and starts up with a flick of the wrist.
Selling AS IS. Even with the needed repair, this watch is worth way more than I'm selling it for.
Original sales thread:
I purchased this piece from ant1 in 2018 for $2,600 -- https://forum.replica-watch.info/forum/replica-watch-sales/6650561-the-16800
Original description from @ant1:
This is a personal build that took about two years of personally gathering & curating the desired parts to make what I envision as the perfect, early 80’s matte dial submariner. I had some of the guys I absolutely love put their hands on it, DBane did the case work / chamfers / lug holes, and Miskiepied put it all together and did the work on the movement for me. Things to point out, of which there are two — 1) there is a dent on the underside of the top left lug and 2) there is a very slight movement of the movement within the case, which is a known thing on these old TC cases, when winding or setting the time. There is NO movement within the case when the crown is screwed down. Could adjust the movement screws and likely get it perfect, but it never bothered me the slightest. I have attached a video at the end of the pics that is of the watch having the time set so you can see what I am talking about.
There isn’t much else to say, other than to really look at the pics and the build list. I have all the details in the breakdown, and further details regarding each transaction / purchase are available upon request. A part out could likely gain me more than from the sale of the total watch, but I prefer to keep it as one piece.
Specs/Breakdown:
Old TC Midcase w Gen Bezel assembly — from SSTEEL - $450
Crystal - not sure, SSTEEL couldn’t recall whether gen or not at time of sale, judge for yourself
Gen 703 Crown / Stem / Tube - $190
Gen Matte Mark 2 Dial Flawless - $490 - steal at that price in that condition; no lume
Gen ghosted insert - $200
Yuki 3135 Movement - $200
Gen Date Disc open 6/9 3135 - $285 — try to find one, i dare you
Movement service w/ gen parts, perfectly matching gen handset, and assembly per Mike - $600
DBane Casework - $475
Free Add-on: Hodinkee Canvas & Leather Strap ($105)
Additions by wrath04 since purchasing:
Lug engravings from NeckyZips: $100. Custom engraving to date the watch to 1982 (photos can be seen in withdrawn sales thread linked above)
Movement service: $150
Bracelet: $100 value. Unknown origin. Fits the case well.
Price is $2,950 firm.
Not in a rush to sell. I received many full price offers last time around before withdrawing. 16800 parts have skyrocketed over the past six years, and this watch is worth way more than this if parted out, but I would hate to do that.
CONUS only. Payment via PayPal Friends & Family. No notes in PayPal.
I will ship via USPS Priority Mail for $10 unless the buyer wants another method. Any additional shipping cost is on the buyer. Will send dated photos of the watch and packaging along with a tracking number before it goes out.
I have bought and sold many high value pieces on this forum (some $5,000+). References available.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
