Hello all,

I have from the purchase of some watch parts still a nipple dial left of a Rolex 1680. I would like to give it a new life. I had thought of buying an original 1570 (I'm afraid I'll need a lot of patience) and put it in an aftermarket case. Since I don't like gold cases that much, I was thinking of a steel case. This was not really available, but could be a charming watch with gold hands (I still have them as original ones) and possibly gold inlays. I did a little research and original dimensions of the case are very important to me. In terms of price/performance ratio, Milk's case seems to be a good option. Is this suitable for the 1570 and how can I buy it? Or does anyone have another idea? Attached are a few pictures (the parts have so far become a snowflake into which the dial was formerly installed). That I had so auseinandergebuat get with the ETA 2783 (that's why the dial is unfortunately drilled).

Best regards

Ole

That's how I got it in parts with the ETA 2783 (that's why the dial is drilled, unfortunately). I think the watch is a conversion from the time when the Snowflakes were not so popular.

Best regards

Ole

Something’s gone screwy with the translation or autocorrect in this rather important final sentence! I’m desperate to know… WHY was the dial drilled?!

I have a Milk case, but couldn’t tell you if it would take a gen movement (although my assumption would be that it will). I’m happy to do some measurements if it would help. Milk’s forum tag is milk051506 - PM him and I’m sure he’ll help.

Thank you very much for your message. Unfortunately, I have not been able to correct the sentence. I bought the watch in parts. I suspect that it was originally a Snowflake. But since this was not so popular in the past, they rebuilt it as a Rolex, but used the ETA 2783 and therefore drilled the dial. I have therefore restored this watch to its original condition.

I have already contacted Milk and will be very happy if he responds.

@Ole123 no need to correct the original post... you've explained the dial history perfectly in your reply there. Thanks!

What a barbaric way to treat a Rolex dial!

Then I'm glad! I think so too. Especially because it is otherwise in good condition. I hope the dial will still look nice when mounted. Let's wait and see what Milk says. Once a case has been found, the movement and crown are still missing. For the crown, I was thinking of a 702 or 703 from Athaya. Or what do you think? Maybe an original 703. The 702 is not affordable.

Here's a thought- what about a two tone 1680? Milk case, gold crown, gold bezel, TT bracelet. That gold nipple dial and a set of gold hands would get you there. Rolex never made a TT 1680 but I've seen a few frankens and they look pretty awesome.

Milk 1680 case takes the 1570 movement and if you get a 1680 (as opposed to 5513), will be for the larger dial opening (26.5mm) vs. the Snowflake/5513 (26mm). Any plans for the Tudor 2783 movement after? I would be interested!

Hello everyone,

first of all I would like to apologize for my late reply. Unfortunately, I haven't had time to get to grips with the project recently. But now I finally want to finish it. I have decided to use a case from Milk. I would then install a gold inlay. As my Nipple dial was originally fitted in a Tudor 9411, it was ground to a diameter of 26 mm (it's a shame that this was done to the Rolex dial). The question for me now is whether I should use Milk's case for the 1680 or his 5513. The 1680 is for dials of 26.5 mm and his 5513 for 26 mm, which would be more suitable for my dial. But since I want to install a Rolex 1570, I'm not sure whether the 5513 will fit the height of the stem. Does anyone have any experience? The Tudor ETA is still installed in the 9411 case with a new dial.

Many thanks and best regards
