Review: Yachtmaster 116622 Spongebob vs Tomrep Bezel Insert Mod with pics!

First thanks to tom and spongebob both are awesome gentlemen in communication.

First thing you want to consider.

Tom - europe
Soongebob - asia


See comaparison pics below tomrep versus spongebob

Tom rep left. Spongebob right. (Note that spongebob is noob insert, and tomrep has from other maker hence the numbers on tomrep is fatter. But both are rounded zeros (closer to gen) and not the square of JF.

Overall both are good and close to gen and really improves the stock noob. You can stop here and buy now!

Details:

matte finish - tomrep is slightly darker versus spongebob. But i notice that when you wet the bezel the spongebob also gets darker a bit and closer to tomrep. Ive held a gen at the shop and the color of spongebob “unwet” is closer to the gen one.

Numbers finish - both have shiny polished numbers which shine to the light. Both i would say are parity.

Spongbob 220 usd. Tomrep 120 euro.
Your choice both have good quality. Up to you if you want slightly darker matte finish. Or a slightly “whiter” one. . I would also consider where youre located to source your bezel

Tomrep´s mod must be a little bit llighter, just a little somtimes it looks grey, platinum doesnt look that grey. A friend of mine has the Tomrep mod and his father a gen 116622, and its a bit lighter.

Both Mods are pretty cool.
Pros: Tomreps surface is more smooth and he does the mod quick.
Contras: Tomreps is a bit too dark in my eyes

Pros: Spongebobs mod has a really really good colour
Contras: Somtimes is looks a little bit grainy, but I think the latest mods were improved.

What's the typical turn around time for Tomreps mod?

He replies fast brother. Usually 1 week is enough. But ask him if he has some spare inserts. Sometimes he stocks them

Base is a TC 16622 with KH dial. Tomrep modded the stock bezel. Then I sent it off to misiekped for regulation and waterproofing.

Only con in my opinion is that the bezel gets dirty easily and starts looking darker in color.

Fully agree mate. Didnt notice the diff in texture but your comment on the color that spongbob is closer to gen i agree fully!

Wow never thought about this combination, the thing is, the bezel of ym is bidirectional and is a glued on insert. Not like the sub which snaps back in. if you really want it i think you can glue the insert. Hope this helps

Little Feedback, Tomrep Mod is 100 Euro, not 120 Euro. 2 Friends paid 100 per inlay

just curious, if I have a TC Yachty, then my bezel insert is glued on? How would I go about swapping that out for a TomRep or Spongebob? Do I need a whole new bezel assembly?

You can send the whole bezel or watchhead, or you take out the inlay of your TCand send it to Tom. Tom just need the Inlay. Use a hairdryer, it is very good to swap it out.
