Just received the 7753 187. This is one which a number of us have been eagerly awaiting. I will start by saying the dealer on this one provided fabulous communication per usual. I felt the price was reasonable given the 7753 movement (which it is) and they had the item on my doorstep in less than a week.

HOWEVER:

The watch does have issues both aesthetically and functionally. For comparison purposes I am superimposing my original 7750 Watchonpo versus the new 7753 and finally adding the gen at the end of each comparison. I never owned the $250 subsequent Asian 7750 version so I couldn't include that. I suspect you can guess what is what. And yes, I know the crown guard is on backwards on the Honpo. ;)

Unfortunately with the difference in the bezel's height and caseback depth it ends up not being close to 1:1 case size. The dealer did not say it was. I am just warning people so there are no surprises.

The movement is as advertised - it is absolutelya 7753. Bezel however has flimsy 60 click movement reminiscent of the Asian 21j subs. The Honpo and Gen both clank around like tanks.

The purpose of my post is not to rag on the dealer. Pictures were accurate and there is nothing wrong in the description. The pictures even show and I didn't notice (because it would never occur to me) that it has screw heads on both sides of the strap bars. What is that?

I have had many happy transactions with the dealer and will continue doing business with them. The purpose of this thread is to review the watch so that no one is disappointed. I know too many people like me who have been lusting for this version for a long time.

Kruzer, great review and thanks for adding all of the details this really show cases the watch and all the comparsions. Sorry to see the disappointment, i guess with this being the first version i would suspect the next few to get better and based on the review they know exactly where they can make the difference.

B-

I hope you are right but I am skeptical we will ever see another version. Another version would have to come from one of the better factories and so far they have ducked. I would guess that in order to put the 7753 movement in a Honpo quality case would have them looking for well north of a $1,000 after the standard mark-ups and that is a very high price point. I have concluded (rightly or wrongly) that the better manufacturers have moved on from the traditional PAM's. The new upgraded cyclops date wheel combo 199 is also clearly coming from an inferior factory. The CG is bad and the bezel is pathetic on that one as well. Too bad I don't own a Ferrari (car that is). Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make very good versions of those versions and that is the direction the better factories have headed - that and other brands as well.
