Review of my PAM 089 by DSN

I've put this off for a couple of days, but here's the review of the PAM 089 that I just picked up from Davidsen. First, let me say that the communication was perfect...well, more perfect on his end than mine. With DSN no longer accepting PayPal, I decided to set up a moneybookers account. I couldn't seem to master the sketchy website, so I sent DSN another email requesting payment via Moneygram instructions. That one was a winner! Only $10 at my nearby Wal-Mart. Fairly painless.

Received an email, after sending him the confirmation number, within 12 hours stating that he would be shipping in the next day or two. Great. 24 hours later, another email stating that the watch had shipped and with EMS tracking number.

Now the wait was on. But not for long. Had my lazy ass walked out to get the mail Saturday, I would have realized that I had a missed delivery notice from USPS. This was only 4 days after shipping from China to Indiana! Sadly, I got the note on Sunday and pouted. Monday, first chance (lunch time) I shot over to the post office and picked up the watch.

Care had clearly been taken when packaging the shipment. The watch was within bubble wrap, within an inner box, within bubble wrap, within an outer box, within a shipping envelope. Very nice. After tearing the mess apart, I found TWO rep straps (thank you David San!), both with Ti logo buckles, and a beautiful watch head. I really like the rubber strap, and the 24mm buckle is on the other strap I picked up for this 089 from Panatime (also another pleasure to do business with!!). Oh yeah, and the watch was extremely impressive, as well. :D Care had been taken with the lume and the dial was flawless.

The watch functions perfectly. The cyclops looks good IMO, but honestly, I'm not sure I'd know a bad one. The date font fills the window as I understand the gen does as well. The bezel has been improved and looks remarkably genuine. The second sweep is perfectly smooth. The GMT hand sets perfectly, jumping in 1 hour increments. And the watch keeps Impressive time. David must truly regulate his watches, as claimed, because this watch is within 0.5 seconds after 24 hours. It might even be deadnuts and the 0.5 was just my eyes jumping from the atomic clock readout to the watch. I assume the watch to be sealed and leakproof, as claimed, but I haven't checked. Let's face it, I'm not gonna jump in a pool with the leather strap anyway, so as long as it holds up to rigorous handwashing, than I'm good.

I won't say there weren't cons. There's a couple "scratches" at 1 o'clock on the bezel and just below the bezel. I say scratches, but they actually look more like the brushed effect was just polished in that area. There are a couple of light scratches on the caseback, but very light. Hell, this watch is supposed to be from 2002, so they certainly don't bother me. Finally, again, the caseback. It is acid etched vs. engraved, but still looks good.

So, for me, the good vs. bad ratio works out to be 97/3.

OK, I'll shut up and give you what you really came for: :p

I've been looking at getting into PAMs and yours is a thing of beauty. I may have to bite your style, I really dig it. I've been looking into Davidson. Is it just a matter of browsing his photobucket site to see what you like of his and then just email him?

That is the easiest way, but you can also look through his dealer section on here for some of his watches. I prefer the photobucket options because you don't have to scroll/filter through so many topics that aren't related to his offerings.

You have to love those titanium cased PAMs :)

There are really only three things which David could improve on, but really aren't that noticeable at all and don't detract from the watches beauty. The etched case backs will fade after wearing the watch for a while. If you look closely at the lume, when it is activated, you can see that is very uneven, kind of "wiggly" - but this is only noticeable in close-up pictures and when the watch is a few inches from your eyes :) And finally the CG pin really should be flattened, or at least extend a bit more so one can flatten it oneself without much trouble. I know that some people complain about the hour hand not being the right size, the date font not being thick enough and the sub-dial being dark brown instead of black, but I don't think these things matter at all and like the watch the way it is.

Enjoy it golgi, you've got a winner there.

it's weird, because most of the cheaper versions out there have the correct size hour hand, i wonder why davidsen does not use the correct hour hand for his version...?

but i like your beige strap with 089, very unique looking

i'm very tempted to get one myself, but am wondering if it's possible to have the hour hand done correctly...

also, i thought davidsen is known to have superb lume job, but the photo up there doesn't look too nice....

I agree on the lume, but DSN I think is more known for his bright lume, vs. the quality of application. You have to remember that the macro shot is your eyeball at an inch from the watch. From 6 inches, it's hardly noticeable. From a couple feet, it looks spot on.

In my opinion, I would rather have the squigly lume "inside the lines", instead of lume on the dial where it should not be.

EDIT: Thanks for the strap comment Zen! :D I'm on my third strap on the watch now...wow, addiction is a powerful thing. :p

Yup, I just don't understand why he can't use that hour hand. I've got a couple of "cheaper" GMT Arktos models I bought, just to see how the looked o the wrist, and both have the correct hour hand.

I've got five DSN PAMs now, and all of them have that "epileptic" lume application. It is noticeable at arms length though, not just right by your face (well I guess it depends on how your eyesight is :) ). Ever since I got my 250 and 192 back from Ziggy, though, I'm so tempted to even send the DSN's to him, as his luming job is just so professionally applied and a better mixture.

I agree with you both on the hands as well. I'm assuming the hands only come in sets, so you either get the fatter minute hand with the wrong hour hand lume slot, or you get the right hour hand with the skinny minute hand. Would be nice if he purchased both sets and disgarded the incorrect hands, but I don't see that happening...

I'm curious, what does a nice lume mod run these days, on average?

how light is the watch, compared to a SS model? I know ti is lighter, but is there a real difference?
