After being impressed with GF pieces over the last year or so I picked up the newly released Breitling Superocean Heritage II 42mm Ref# AB201012 and thought a quick review was in order so my thoughts are…
Dial
Deep black dial with the B logo as opposed to the wings which is goldish toned and give a nice contrast to the dial and silver markers. The dial print is also a nice bold white which I think is on par with the Avenger GMT II (GF) which is a pleasant surprise as some other releases I felt was not as crisp. The sword hands are also a nice change. As for the date font it is spot on.
Bezel/Crystal
The bezel is nice and tight, aligns perfectly all the way around the dial at each marker and teeth are easy to grip but not too sharp. Clicking is also nice and loud, again for comparative it’s on par with Avenger GMT II and also the Superocean 44 (Noob). And the pearl is nice and flat. The crystal is great quality and the AR coating is very well done withe a bluish/purple tint.
Case
The case is nicely finished with a polished detail, the largish crown goes perfectly with the dial and size of the bezel teeth and has the slightly raised B logo.
Strap
It looks like the first attempt at the Aero rubber on tang, a solid effort. Compared to my gen Aero on deployment it is not as thick and the texture is slightly different, also looking side on the rubber finishing is different.
Movement
The sweeping movement is very nice and smooth, the crown unwinds smoothly with date and time changes also nice and smooth. I haven’t had it long enough to notice if it Is running +/- but time graph said +2 seconds. Again for comparative it’s on par with the Avenger GMT II and also the Superocean 44 (Noob) and also is on par with my gen Tag Heuer Grand Carrera calibre 17 (although I just sold this piece). Very impressed with the aesthetics of the sweeping seconds hand and hopefully the movement stands the test of time as I see it being worn a lot. As for the power reserve again I can’t speak to this as it’s been on my wrist since it arrived!
Overall Conclusion
I was a little worried that it might be a little small at 42mm but it is fantastic on the wrist! Very impressed with overall finishing and quality…throw a gen strap on and it is an amazing piece! Like a lot of Breitlings this piece gives a lot of options for varying the look, you can go any of the rubber straps (I’m thinking aero, ocean racer, pro diver III), black leather with white stitching or even go the mesh bracelet! I see this one getting a lot of wrist time! Keen to hear other feedback on the blue or what the TD describe as white but gen is silver.
