So I've heard you shouldn't wear reps on your wrist when you travel by airplane. Apparently they can ask you for a certificate if they recognize your expensive watch.

Is that true? What happens if they 'catch you' with a rep?

Are you serious? Who carries a certificate with them? LOL... I travel a lot from Asia to Europe and back to states and never heard or seen that...

Not sure where you heard that from but that's a load of nonsense.

Highly unlikely. I'd worry more about the price of beer at airports if I were you!

From what I read the stress lies on the plural. While one is fine, with five it may be considered illegal cf trading if the official is having a bad day.

Officially You are also only entitled to only 1 Rolex gen when entering Conus or the EU (except You have papers and officially declare them).

About to board flight to England with my lmpo... I sure hope not!

I wouldn't worry about 1 or two. I wouldn't come back from China with a a 36 case.

Actually the OP is technically correct in that Customs and excise in your home country (in this case I'm talking about the UK) can ask for proof of the original purchase if they suspect that you have bought the watch abroad and are making a saving on import duty and sales tax, just in the same way you're limited to how much alcohol and tobacco you can bring home. In practice it's very rare but it has happened. Regarding a rep it's not illegal to own one but no idea about "importing" one!

If you're carrying a handful of watches and returning to your home country.....you MIGHT be asked:

"have you declared those?"

At which point you'll say "no I bought them with me from home"

The officer may say "do you have proof that you purchased them in your home country and not on holiday?"

The officials might assume they're gen and want you to pay VAT!!

Accidents and Emergency
I carry 3 watches abroad and never had a problem with it. Although I had to admit I was a bit nervous the first time because of customs declaration.

I've travelled with more than one watch to Europe and Asia and never had a problem. If they catch you with the original packaging that may raise a few eyebrows but I'd pack that seperately or mail it back to myself.

I have traveled with multiple reps to and through Europe. Never had an issue. What's next? They might ask for tags on your jeans? Lol

Not any more (in the US at any rate), that bit of stupidity was dropped from US law about two months back. You can now import as many gen Rolex in the US as you like by whatever method you care to use. The concept that Rolex should have control over your legally purchased possessions is now no more. They were the only company to have such a provision and I doubt anyone will ever again.

That's a good one! I have been traveling so long and never been asked for any kind of document or certification. Last week I travelled with two rep Rolies, a Seiko and my gen PO Omega with no issues. As mentioned maybe traveling with box might cause some issue if noticed and pointed out by airport staff

Travelled for 20 years with gens and reps, never stopped, never asked. Currently in Barbados with DSSD on wrist, Pam183 and BPFF in the roll. No problems at all.
