one advise Denveronly, rep sunglasses aren't safe, they dont usually come with the necessary UV (UVA and UVB ), photochromic, blue-blocking or polarized lens treatment, failing to block harmful rays off your eye damaging the outer eye skin and the cornea as well, cheap sunnies will damage your eye, that's a fact dont risk it!

Sunglasses are one of the thing that I will never buy rep. The consequences might be too bad. Better get a gen Polaroid or something like that, they're not expensive.
Got a pair of Ray Ban Aviator 3449, purchased from an AD, which are not cheap, but at least I know my eyes are safe.

Ditto. Not worth the risk.
Yes, Polycarbonate has inherent UV blocking properties (not enough in my opinion), but who's to say the cheap Chinese-made rep sunglasses are polycarbonate? If they're just dark tinted polyethylene or something like that, they cause your pupils to dilate and allow even more uv to enter your eyes.
Not worth the risk.

Yes but.....

I would consider buying them if the frame was quality made. Then I can have the lenses remade ;)

rep sunglasses are safe. Bought a few and took them to a local glasses store and got them tested, 100% uv protection.
UV has very poor penetrating potential, and normal glass/plastic will block most of it.

I have never bought any rep glasses. But I saw a pair of Tag Heuer sunglasses I liked, and I freaked out when they told me they were over $1k. These sunglass manufacturers ( most are made by the same factory ) are out of control.

And having worked in the industry I can say that materials labor to manufacture a pair regardless of brand is under $50. Yes they are made in China. I would still caution on the notion that we all know that qc on reps is very poor. It makes me paranoid on the qc for rep eyewear as well.

it's better than selling drugs... man it so ridiculous the profit margin just because they are gen... Oh and I'm only referring to frames only in the case of rx eyewear. Yet the same applies to sunwear.

It is a very good analogy to what we find in gen watches (rolex) vs. a wm9 the savings for the same product is astounding. Yet, it is still your eyesight. I still think that if you want a certain rep sunwear pair, buy the gen it is not worth it. But Rx frames, get rep frames in fact if you love a style, buy about 2-3 rep frames of the same. You still have to get the lenses made. But you have spare frames in case you need them.

Rep glasses all the way. The gens are so overpriced its scary. The lenses basically cost nothing to make. It was cheaper for me to buy gen Raybans sunglasses than a frame with nothing in. Ended up basically throwing away the lenses because I got presciption lenses.
