Replica quality

I am looking at some replicas on a TD website, Chazing Time. It is my first replica purchase and I am wondering about the quality difference between a $500 VSF, $300 APSF, $300 GSF, and a $360 BPmaker Rolex yacht-master. This is pretty daunting when there are so many choices in replicas.....

It is the same when buying a car and different trim levels. The more you spend, the better it is.

Hi and welcome to RWI! Glad you found your way here.

You should head to the Rolex section and look for threads about the YM. That way you'll learn about the differences, pros, cons. Surprised you didn't include clean factory in your list.

Please take some time to read the sticky threads in the new members area (all subsections), learn the basic forum rules and get some very good advice in the process. A number of questions has already been answered there, this is just an example:

As a new subscriber, you've already been directed to this thread, please read carefully and look through the linked additional threads:

Another good thread to read to understand where RWI comes from and some fundamentals is this:

Most of the information you need to know to start is there. If you're preparing to buy, read the stickies before ordering. When you're finished, you can continue learning by reading the stickies in all remaining sections. If it's stickied, it's important information.

If you intend to sell, read the sales rules and all stickies in the sales section with particular care and make sure you understand each single rule. Sales rules infraction is taken very seriously here. As a new member you are not eligible to sell. Using the sales section is a privilege, eligibility must be earned, make sure you know and understand how.

For anything else, feel free to reach out to @eBoy or me, we're happy to assist, advise, direct, explain. Don't hesitate.

Don't be afraid to post noob questions in the new members area. In doubt, use the flame free zone. If you feel uncomfortable anywhere in the new members area, please reach out to @eBoy or me. Mutual respect is of utmost importance to us. On the other hand, we're grown-ups and are supposed to be able to deal with a bit of irony, don't take it personally, ever, a bit of irony never harmed anyone. If you laugh at jokes, you'll make friends faster.

This forum is a treasure trove of information and benefits from the engagement of all members who take their time to share their knowledge, help each other out and have some fun. We hope that you'll benefit and enjoy this platform as well as contribute positively to it.

If at any point you feel to contribute also on another level, feel free to pm the boss (trailboss99) to become a supporter and get some little perks with the status (editing rights, for example).

Enjoy the forum.

Is there certain replica makers to avoid, and some to gravitate towards. Or are many made in the same place and simply rebranded?

Thank you, I will look at clean factory. I also noticed that Prodos watch advertises here but is not listed on your trusted dealers page. Is there a thread that talks about their quality?

No rebrands. Factories make the watches. Obviously they source parts from different sources, in some cases two different factories may source one part from the same manufacturer. But definitely factories have different qualities .
Re prodo Watch, I've seen it mentioned a lot lately and the word is they deliver bad quality/not what they advertise. Stay away and stick to our TDs.

you don't have access to the "makers".
Your (safe) gateway is the TDs listed here

As a relatively new member, I did not rush into a purchase. I identified the models I was interested in, and then started to read the threads where those models where being discussed. Look at wrist shots.

After some time, you start to make sense of the jargon. you start to understand what are model numbers, movement numbers, factory initials.

Then you can look up the relative qualities of same model from different factories.

What few people consider is having repair work done if/when it needs it, and watchmakers avoid many/most/all of the lower tier replicas because they are difficult or very time consuming to repair. As part of your research, do some searching on service and repair of models that are on your shortlist.

Hi - firstly, welcome!

To get an understanding of the differences in quality e.t.c. then checking out some of the detailed comparisions of various models from ctime and steve_theonewatches (both TD's) is a good read to see exactly how each may differ - example here: Comparison of 4 factories - Rolex Explorer 1

I find them fascinating to see the minute details between each - for your specific quest on Yachtmaster I'd find Steve_theonewatches via the TD links and drop him a question as to which he would recommend, then see if there is a review against it - good luck in your first purchase!
