The ones from our TDs are real titanium. Unfortunately it is softer than SS and attracts dings, nicks and scratches. But it is so amazing to wear. I have three 177. Don't know why but I just love the material.
Yea its real Ti, but like Dr.V said its fairly soft and scratches easily. But its also easy to fix with a scotchbrite pad. Its the largest and lightest watch i own.

Titanium is always bonded to other elements in nature. It is the ninth-most abundant element in the Earth's crust (0.63% by mass)[27] and the seventh-most abundant metal.

There are several grades of titanium. The higest grades, the ones used for medical purposes or in the aviation industry are quite expensive, but the lowest grades are actually very affordable.
On the other hand, precise machining of titanium tends to be more expensive than machining common steels.
