Today I got my AP Diver and I am hereby announcing it as rep of the year! I know there have been some great Hublot and Pam offerings, but this is my thinking...

...For the longest time, people have been hesitant to put big money into an AP due to the movement problems.For example, I have a buddy who has had his Rubberclad serviced three times and it still won't run longer than ten hours! The Diver comes Swiss and without the seconds at 12. A bit of a paradigm shift in AP reps :) Everyone should own this watch...

Am I crazy? :)

I am not sure, but I don't think it is the rep of the year, even though it is very good. There are supposedly several small innacuracies, such as dial details, lume on the hour markers, case thickness, crystal height, bezel screws, caseback gap. I also noticed the polished edges of the case are not symmetrical: the polished area is larger in the right-hand side of the case than in the other side.

What else?

An AD might notice those things -- or maybe you:) The Swiss movement makes it a better watch than the others in the running -- and that might not matter to some, but it does to me. Yeah, the little this and that might be a mm off or not as lumed as it should be, but the heart of the watch is solid.

What are the other reps that are in the running, by the way? The V6 HBB's? Just curious..

I think all the reps have faults, and the AP Diver is very well made and the faults are small enough to be noticed.

The model is very nice, the gen has appeal, and I think it can be the super rep, if not the Diver, a chrono one, but will be an AP for sure, in my opinion.

I figured it would be a tussle between the V6's, the Pam 005, and the Diver -- but I'm much more an AP guy than the other two so I gotta respectfully disagree, V :whistle:

As am I; however, we have to look at the out-of-the-box QC problems that we are having with the Divers. Bad marker alignment, weak inner bezel crown, the crystal not being fully pressed in, the steel scratching like a $60 Sub... fine_dd said himself that 1/2 of the Divers he receives have some kind of manufacturing issue. Even a trusted dealer gave the same figure of the amount of these Divers he rejects!

Now, I'm not hating on the Diver. I love mine! It's just terrible factory QC that kills it for this one.

Don't get me wrong, I also love the Diver, but for rep-of-the-year I will take something that is outstanding out-of-the-box. The details I listed above, and the others mentioned above, are small indeed, but numerous enough to make the watch not the rep-of-the-year IMO. I fear the v6 Hublots are a safer bet.

Most of the flaws listed are cosmetic, yes? While appearance accuracy is important to me (it's important to all of us or we'd be wearing Timex!), I am more interested in what powers the watch. I will go Swiss over Asian movement every time.

Am I doin' alright stickin' to my guns? :)

..On a side note; is my new favorite watch going to crumble away to dust from my wrist tomorrow???? It sorta sounds like it from giant laundry list of stuff reported in this thread...

too early to call it rep of the year, still more then 100 days to go.

It is a nice watch but with all the issues I do not think it will make it no1. The v6 HBBs will also be close and some of the new Pams.

The movement on the diver has nothing to do becoming no1.

So let us see what else comes up.

I think one of the things that has really made quality jump in repdom this year is the mvts

the platin highbeat 6497, the super rolie 3135 clone, and the hbb v6 mvt. only thing that has ever sported a mvt as nice (maybe a little nicer) is the LH.

After having my Diver relumed, waterproofed and ar'd by fine dd added an AP bands waterproof strap and my Diver is definately my rep of the year.

The Swiss movement has nothing to do with it being a candidate for rep of the year? So, by that logic, the only criteria is how many visible flaws are on the watch...

...Sorry, don't buy that :)

Simple, a lot of fake watches have a swiss movement. And yes, flaws and quality will vote for rep of the year.

The construction of the crown at 10 is very poor, the lume is bad. All new Pams have much better lume.

Anyhow, I also love my Diver, but you need to spend 200 USD to make it perfect.

For sure I will take the diver into the top 10 when we vote at the end of the year!

Okay, point taken..However, how many of the watches up for rep of the year have Swiss movements? And how many of those have the Selitta (which I'm pretty sure there is no clone of)...

I don't think a winner for rep of the year can include $200 to make it so -- hence I may settle for a pretty damn good rep for the Diver...I think rep of the year should be best as you open the package...Since I don't really like Hublot or Panerai -- maybe I should retitle this thread "MY favorite rep of the year" - - and leave the real pros to pick a champ...

If it's fully modded from Uwe and bring it to AP AD, will they spot it's a rep? (Of course with an exception for the movement).

I don't think so, you can buy the fully modded version from Uwe
