ok hears the deal. Some of you may remember me talking about this on RWG last year. I bought this Bentley motors T chrono and i get a terrible rash from the caseback. I cleaned it and no matter what i did it always looked to be a diff color metal from the rest of the metal on the watch. I just took off the caseback and the inside of the caseback is stainless and the outside where the 3 cars are engraved appears to be a browner colored metal. I thought at first it was a "Cap" glued onto a flat caseback but when i took some 400 grit sandpaper to it, i found out its got a coating painted into it. I just bought some polystrippa and its soaking right now... i will take a wire brush to it and polish it after im done and post the results. This is by far my favorite rep ever and i am excited that i may be able to wear it for more than a few hours at a time without getting a nasty rash

wish me luck!!

Re: rep Breitling motors T chrono caseback problem

well heres an update...

the paint striper and wire brush took off all the mystery coating on the caseback and now im left with shiney stainless. Why the heck did they coat it anyways? Im suspecting to give it that proper "brushed" look around the polished raised cars? Im gunna wear the watch now over night and see what happens. I took pics of the before and after the paint stripper and you can clearly see the difference.

I'll have another update tomorrow night. Most of you probably dont really care but to those of us with nickle alergies, this could be a solution to some people not being able to wear their Bentley Chrono T without having to put duct tape on the case back like i had to :)

cheers

wow that sucks especially on your favorite watch...so basically you sanded and removed the nickle plating??? Well good luck, I hope you fixed it, the watch will look much better without the duct tape. :D

Re: rep Breitling motors T chrono caseback problem

i dont know what it was on there.. it wasnt nickle.. it looked like some kind of silvery paint.. hers some pics after i took sandpaper to the caseback. You can see the paint around the edges of the cars where the sandpaper couldnt get to

And here is the caseback after soaking it in Polystrippa paint remover and taking a wire brush to it. Dont mind all the scratches and gouges, i'll deal with those later. I didnt have a caseback opener and had to use vice grips :) The caseback was on super tight

Here you can see there is no paint left and its all clean and down to the bare stainless

I wore the watch for a couple days and no skin reaction at all. Looks like the problem is solved. Hopefully this can help someone else who may have a similar issue.

it is very strange they would put paint on the case back. it is very cool you found out the problem and corrected it so you can wear it. i would hate it if i were allergic to my breitlings!! :D
