I just got my Noob Pam029 today. It has the Asian 2836-2 mov't. Should I have it serviced right away? Or just wear it. I just want the mov't to last longer.

Would it be hard to source an ETA mov't to replace it with?

Just wear it..
If you really like the watch and intend to keep then fair enough get it serviced but
a brand new A2836-2 movement only costs about $50 in any case.

With the 2836 i think you should just wear it and enjoy it. I do not believe this is a problematic movement so you should be fine for quite some time. I am sure that switching to eta would require some additional modding as it most likly will not be a simple swap of movements.

You just got it, so wear it and enjoy. If it starts giving you problems, send it to one of our local watch smiths for repair.

Like every one else says, If it's not broke, don't fix it. And yes, it's easy to swap in a ETA movement later. What I would I would do is wear and when it needs servicing in 4 or 5 years, then just swap in a new ETA movement.

You'll probably have sold it and bought something else by then.

I've never serviced a movement in 25 years, and it's never been an issue.

I do sometimes, particularly if it's something I want to keep for a loooooooooong time.

At the VERY least, I open the caseback with the proper caseback opener and take a look with a magnifier. Ensure that the movement tabs are all tight, I also check to make sure there aren't any loose materials and if it looks dirty inside use compressed air to blow it out and put a drop of oil on the rotor bearings and ensure the rotor screw is tight. Right or wrong, that's what I do.

Katt can do this for you very inexpensively for a non-chrono. IMHO, I consider it to be the movement QC that doesn't get done well at the factory.

This all makes perfect sense to me, and is a good thing.

You just received your Rep, and perhaps waited a week or 2. Now you want to send it off for god knows for how long. Keep it, enjoy it. Or order a 2nd rep and send that off for servicing. Get it back, and sell the one you were wearing. Hey presto!

Ahhhhhh. This is why you take advice from NOOBS with a grain of salt.

Katt is an OUTSTANDING forum friendly watchsmith. His turn around time is amazing. His work is professional. His communication is great, and he's honest beyond reproach.

Ordering a second for servicing then selling the unserviced would cost you about the same or more in the long run than having the original watch serviced. Rarely will you sell a watch for the same price you paid for it.

Don't need to send it off. Fortunately there is a local watchmaker that will service Reps!!!

Yeah - its not a 7750... Wear it around, make sure it keeps good time. If it breaks, send it in for fixing / upgrade to an ETA movement, in the end they are still reps and wont last forever, dont beat it like a gen (over winding, other forms of abuse), and you will have something that will last you for a few years.

7750 owners on the other hand, run ok as long as you dont use the chrono (too much, or reset the chrono too far away from the 12). There are sub forums for each movement, you can look at what people have done... You have been on a tear with posts related to your first PAM rep purchase today.... Take some time to read, and look at what others have encountered, done, etc.al, and most of all enjoy it.
