I recently received a pretty badly scratched PAM 176 as a gift and set out to read up on how to remove scratches from titanium. What I found were scratch removal pads on Ebay, fiberglass brushes on Ebay, posts saying that ink erasers could work, and some posts saying that Scotch Brite could work.
After trying a whole bunch of solutions, I can say that white, pink, and black eraser from Staples had little to no effect, blue Scotch Brite also seemed to do just about nothing, and I am way too impatient to order some stuff off Ebay.
Eventually I came up with a process that worked really great requiring only materials I could get at the local grocery store, and I wanted to share that here in case someone else had the same issue.
Disclaimer: I am not responsible if you ruin your watch trying to follow my directions
Here's what I did:
1) Paper tape over sapphire to protect it.
2) Steel wool to remove the bigger scratches, taking care to brush in the direction of the original brushed pattern. Very light pressure.
3) Green Scotch Brite Heavy Duty scouring pad, again taking care with the direction. Medium pressure.
Here's the before and after 5 minutes of work:
Exactly the result I was hoping for.
The downside to titanium is that it scratches easily, but the flip side of that is that scratches can be brushed out very easily as well!
