Please don't resort to drilling

If my own previous experience is anything to go by, the springbars will remain gleefully unaffected by your efforts while the surrounding case and end links will get ripped to buggery by the drill bit as it deflects off the springbar and chews up its surroundings. You'll be left with that feeling (oh so familiar to me) of "Why the **** did I think

Although that does imply I'm judging you by my own piss-poor "modding" abilities. You may of course have good hand-eye coordination and be an absolute surgeon with a tiny drill.
But do consider the dedicated tool options first. I generally find the Bergeon to be the most useful, and get excellent consistent results using the 3153:
