Removing Back Cover

Quick question, is it easy to remove the back cover of a Rolex to view the movement? I already removed the bracelet. Is a special tool needed?

I wanted to check the movement on an old YM I bought a few years ago. Thanks!

just ball up some duct tape with the sticky side out and you will have no prob unscrewing the back.

When a caseback has been secured with a caseback tool, does the tape (or other gummy ball) really provide enough torque to unscrew it?

I've tried several times on watches that have the "notched' caseback (many Seikos, rep Speedmaster, rep Planet Ocean) and found it took some "oomph" even when using a tool. I couldn't imagine budging them otherwise.

It worked on all my reps so far

What a great idea! I love improvising things to do other jobs. If I knew earlier, could have saved me some scratches.

When it comes to reps, you're lucky if the caseback is screwed on at all.

I have had three watches the sticky-ball couldn't handle. Once was the V5 DSSD (which I almost gave up on even with a wrench) and two Ladies DateJusts. I think the small size of the Ladies Datejust just didn't give enough area for the ball to "grab" onto.

Just a note, don't use wadded up tape if you like your "green sticker", it won't be there when you get done! :p
