Its not finished yet, but the end result Im going for is a non-matching piece. I used a couple of pigments, one of which is a non-luminous vintage pigment. My goal was to create a more period correct relume, day and night. With the helpful input from @Grimlocktime I will be applying a semi-gloss clear lacquer over the lume once the dial is fully cured.

Thanks for looking :)

Looks very good already! Did you use DSN dial as a base?

I don't actually know what dial it is. I've had it for over a year and finally did something with it. It might be DSN. It originally had orange-ish paint that I was able to scrape out without ruining the dial finish.

The color looks really good, the dials finish does look like a DSN, which were (are) an orangy color to start. Are you going to whole dial now, or just the indicies?

What do you mean by whole dial or just indices? I'm not a big vintage guy... is there something else I should be doing to the dial besides applying a lacquer over the lume?

Sorry the word lacquer was missing from my original post... What I meant was are you going to "spray the whole dial with a thin coat of lacquer, or are you going to apply lacquer only to the numbers, like you applied the lume? I was just curious.

Gotcha. I'm going to apply it over the lume only. I guess I should look into the dial finish compared to gen see if I should spray the entire dial with something after.

Your process I believe is how it was done. I think the rest of the dial look great already. Sort of satin, not Matt and not glossy...

Hey guys, little update with the dial. Just finished applying a second coat of the semi-gloss lacquer... and not that I have a lot to compare with, but it looks nice to me. Here are a couple progress pics. Last step will be the semi-gloss clearcoat.

12 & hr1 markers filled, hr11 is not

Really outstanding work. It's soooo hard to reproduce the gen dial effect. It's because the gen lacquer dulls over time. so originally it looked glossy and now it looks matte unless its in super bright direct light.

Here's a crop from a gen 201/A build. The lighting isn't the same, but you can get the gist for the glossy indices in bright light.

the here's the gen 203/a dial in direct light It looks totally matte.

Unless you shine direct light on it, then you pick up some gloss.

I'm excited to see how the semi-gloss lacquer set up!

@Grimlocktime thank you for all the pics. I applied a third layer of lacquer and then a topcoat and here is the finished product. Thinking about sending it to you for inspection. I would love a hands on opinion of my dial.

From start to finish, it took two coats of pigment. I wanted a thorough coating yet not overfilled, to retain the concave look. Three layers of lacquer and then a topcoat over the entire dial.

@ALE7575 and any of you PAM pros, I would love your input as well. I was just winging it, as this was my first attempt at a dial like this.

In my opinion it looks extra cool, the indices and numbers are very good. Texture is maybe a tad too rough imho.
For sure a dial I'd happily use in a build
