Attempted my first purchase of an AP model that had been discontinued. After some searching I landed on a Clean Wimbledon Datejust. Some say the VSF is the best model for some aspects, some say clean is superior, pulled the trigger on the clean so we shall see how it turns out.

04/17/23: QC photos received.

Received QC photos this morning. Provided plenty of photos at various angles to make the GL decision easy. Looks to have the clear rim xtal and not the milky edge, which is awesome considering that was one of my hesitations going with the Clean version. Will update once watch is received.

I actually did a crypto payment. They sent me a wallet address. Basically the same process as making a PayPal or Venmo payment, just from a crypto wallet instead of bank account.

First impressions

Watch feels solid. Decent weight. Crown and winding are smooth, DW is crisp and I’m a fan of the quality of the xtal (pleasantly surprised to be honest). Everything is straight and aligned and dial has a beautiful sunburst effect. Clasp feels sturdy, bracelet came fitted to my wrist, I expecting to have to remove a link or two, I may need to find an additional link just in case to be perfectly honest.

Watch is crazy difficult to photograph.. there is a bright green around the Roman numerals that does not show in photos as well as in person and they have a 3d effect to them.

2 negatives that I can’t get past.

1. Rotor is loud, movement is smooth and winding is smooth, but rotor is very noticeable. Going to search the forum for someone close by who can give it a good service and hopefully reduce the noise.

2. The LEC (laser etching) of the crown on the xtal is basically non existent and not visible.. the QC photos showed a bold prominent crown at 6 o’clock and when I’m looking at the watch in hand it’s like a where’s Waldo game trying to locate it, if I don’t hold the watch upside down and at an angle while squinting you’d never see it.

I have a Sugess Daytona homage with an asian 7750. The rotor is loud plus it spins like crazy...and I love the watch for this. It is like a fidget toy.

Might be a different feeling with a rep though if you don't want to get found out. I knew about the Sugess rotor behavior befoe buying

Honestly it’s not a make or break in terms of me wearing the watch and loving it, I’m having the movement serviced as we speak just to make sure there’s no underlying issue that’s causing the noise. If it turns out that’s just the norm for the movement I’ll still love this watch and wear it proudly lol.
