Received credit card charge back dispute email from TD, bank says no refund pending

I have a weird situation, which I am not sure how to handle.

I purchased a watch from TD in September with my credit card, everything went well I got the watch in October no problems. Today almost 5 months later, I received email from TD asking me why I did CC charge back for this purchase what is the problem? The order#, CC number (last 4 digits) and email matches with one of file.
The credit card I used is September to purchase the watch has been deactivated since January 30, because I did account product changes and got different card at my bank. Today, I called my bank CC and asked to check history of this transaction, and they don't see any refund requests or pending "charge back" .

I can't view my transactions on the old card since the change, but bank confirms transactions in Guangzhou City when I purchased the watch in September but no refunds from the vendor.

I have purchased 6 watches so far since I joined the forum, 3 purchased with CC and 3 with WU. This is my first problem of this sort, I never did any disputes, I always received what I expected and never had any problems.

TD asked me to initiated the charge back, and then send the money other way, but I am not sure if I can do this since the transaction happened 5 months ago, and card has been deactivated, anyways my first question was how can I even do this if I don't have the card, everything is just fishy and looks like TD is getting scammed by his CC services they use, or some financial scammers in China. Apparently "I received damaged good and initiated refund" which is total crap, I have the watch it works well, wife wears it everyday, the credit card no longer in service since Jan.30.

Same thing happened with me and it also was for a purchase in September. Went through all my records couldn't find anything. Emailed the TD back and told him. He said OK and I haven't heard anything else.

Looks like I'm not alone, I am almost certain TD became a target of CC theft from within China. My info got stolen either from TD or credit card service company in China, false charge back was initiated stated "damaged goods received, not as described on website", then the scumbags ran away with money taken from TD, so TD goes after me for cash.

This is telling me in that part of the world anything is possible and electronic CC theft is common practice, so think twice before you use your credit card for purchases. This may not affect you financially as much, but it is not pleasant when receiving emails from TD with accusation of initiated refunds. I am only glad that above card has been deactivated who knows what charges I would find on it as a result of the scam. WU is preferred option for me from now on.

+1..

There are professional scammers out there. We all know that. Using a CC/Debit card to contraband in China is gamble anyway guys. Usually it works without a hitch but sometimes shit happens. Whilst WU is a PIA, it's 100% secure for buyer and seller. That is the world of reppin' today.

As Dil said, I would just ignore the email and roll. See how it rolls.

This makes no sense. If a chargeback is completed on a transaction, it credits your card balance or, in some cases your bank statement. How does a "scammer" get money by placing a charge back through your credit card? Money would just go to you.

Further, if your bank has no record a dispute, then this can't have happened as described. Even if someone else pretended to be you and placed a dispute that went through, the bank would certainly have record of it.

If there was no way of getting money they would not do it, like rob said they get sophisticated over there with scams. I went as far as emailing td my cc section of statement screenshots to show there was no refund or charge back on the card ever from him. I also emailed screenshot of original purchase from September.

I think td got screwed so he tries to recover cash, asking me to initiate 'real'charge back then WU recovered money to cover loss.
Does it make sense ?

TD has at least one more cases like mine, think twice people before using cc, WU is better option.

I recommend using a throwaway visa when buying reps
Found some dodgy transactions a few years ago from my rarely used amex and I suspect it is due to the dodgy rep payment system

The exact same thing happened to me. TD told me to send the watch back but I never received the funds back so I just left it alone

What i was most concerned about what the fact that they will not let you order from them anymore, and I really liked that TD.

There is two sides to that. WU costs you more money. As long as everything goes well, you are fine. I like CC's because they will go to great lengths to protect me if something ever goes wrong. It also doesn't cost me anything.

Not a bad idea.

Just research it once and use "safe" and throwaway Visa/Mastercards etc. In general setting up a separate banc account with limited funds, only to do all online purchases includind ebay/ Amazon etc., is worth it in the long run. Online is here to stay. Works perfect, if the rep is "in-house stock", as they sometimes are, 1/2 hour later You have the qc-pics, otherwise next day.
From my place, it´s not only the hassle of data they want to know when paying cash with WU, the conversion rate from EUR to USD is at least 5% worse than with the banc (and theirs is worse than the one You google). In Conus it´s much easier, if You have a WU office on the way to work, the better for some of us.

No i did not. I only emailed screenshots of my cc charges going back 2 months. I think they realized that they're getting scammed from within homeland. Last emails we exchanged td was ok if i buy from them again with whichever payment option i choose.
