Reasons NOT to get a DSN?

I am really interested in DSN's 104. I have seen tons of threads and reviews and all looks well.

Before dumping my money into his account, can anyone give me a reason to not do it?

I plan on leaving it as is, unless I can find someone to install a new T48.

I would be ordering a 177 through DSN but his price is almost 50% more than the 104.

If you feel the features are important enough to you to spend the money on then no.

So, are you looking to buy DSN's 104 or 177? Both?

I'm confused...

Considering the price of both (280 vs. 460) I think I would only take the 104.

Ok, I'll play devil's advocate and say this:

If you're truly anal about accuracy, you will not be happy with the out of box date font and mag, there I've said it.

Now having said that, I really like most of DSN's pieces and have owned several of them through the years, but that 104 definitely needs some further mods IMHO.

Also considering the DSN 104. What mods do you recommend for this piece?

What I'm going to say is not so much specific to DSN, but is generally true for all high end reps from all dealers (DSN, however, presents a bit of a special case given his mods and his prices). The answer to your question "Is it worth it?" really depends on you. I'll give you an example. As has been well-documented, I really loathe PAM Luminors. I find them ugly and clunky. As a result, I don't spend a lot of time examining or looking at them. So, for me, spending upwards of $400 for such a watch would be crazy. The reason being is that although DSN's PAMs are (from what I've been told) some of the best around, the subtle changes and minor fixes are not things that I would (a) notice; or (b) care about.

Now, contrast my feelings with someone like Hooligan or LoS (both of whom are huge PAM fans). I have heard them prattle on for literally hours about some minor 0.00001 mm variation with some crown guard. And for them, this minor flaw will ruin the watch for them.

So, again, it all depends on what you're looking for, and how much you care (and are knowledgable about) flaws. All reps, regardless of brand, price, quality, etc., are going to have flaws. Some are more noticable than others. With the DSN PAMs, yes, they are going to have flaws, but flaws that really only dedicated PAM fans are going to be able to spot. The question, therefore, is how much is a minor flaw going to bother you.

Just to add what seanf said, If you are looking for the "best" rep out of box, you won't get it from DSN. Narrow it down to DSN PAM, I think it's a very good bang for bucks. Look for something that other dealers don't offer such as the PAM082. That makes your rep even rarer than other models.
