Realigning sandwich dial?

Hey guys, I've recently noticed the dial on my kW 217 is a little off alignment. The 9 sits higher than the 3, so the dial is off axis by 1 minute clockwise.

How difficult is it to fix this by slightly rotating the dial counter clockwise? I asked a watch servicer on the forum and he said its not possible, as it would cause the seconds hand hole to become unaligned.

I imagine dial alignment is a common issue and shouldn't be too hard to fix. If anyone has done it before, could you offer some advice and instructions? What tools will I need? Here's a pic of the dial in question

You could try and rotate the whole movement, dial as well, BUT you need wiggle room with the stem. If you put sideways pressure on the stem it is likely to break.

That's what I was thinking too. I watched a video on disassembling the watch. Seems like I could remove the stem, remove the movement, rotate the dial and then reassemble?

ONLY if there is enough slack in the stem location in the case to re-fit it to the movement, otherwise you're buggered

I have done this myself but you have to be very careful. If you are not sure / lack correct case opening tools please take to a friendly watch smith..

Open case back and pop open crown lever, loosen the movement mounting screws, there will probably be 2, and then gently move the whole movement slightly in the right direction. Once you are happy tighten it all back up and job done.

Thanks for the reply. So I won't have to remove the crown and the stem at all? I will do some research on caseback opening tools. I've seen some use a rubber ball. Do you have a toolset you would recommend? I'll take a look online as well.

I did not need to remove stem as there was enough play to slightly nudge the movement n dial assembly. I bought a set of 4 panerai case back openers from eBay I think the seller was in Hk paid us$42.00

There is a small amount of room for play in the second hand and center wheel openings on the dial. You would need to take the MVT out, remove the dial, break the feet and manually align.
