Re-Casing a PAM090

Hi all,

I'm resigned to the fact that I will not be able to source a PAM090 that meets my standards, so I think I will just have to bite the bullet and consider modding. Although some of the available models get the caseback correct (solid), every rep I've seen includes that incredibly annoying quick-set date button at 7!

WHY WOULD THEY DO THIS???

I'm going to ignore the datewheel problem for the moment (unless someone knows of a replacement datewheel overlay for that Seagull movement) and focus on re-casing the PAM090 movement/dial into a more accurate case. So, here's the big question: is there a decent Luminor case out there that will accept this movement/dial? And is it worth trying to source it separately, or will it actually be cheaper to buy as an assembled watch?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Edited to add:
What do you think of this T4D model as the donor watch?

Is there going to be a big difference between this and other dials out there?

Lotsa luck!! >>>

A few years back one of our Italian brethren got into this exact quest.....It took him a lot of time and €'s, but he did eventually succeed....Trouble is, I can't remember his name maybe "Silversurfer" or something like that...!!
And I wonder whether it's really worth it, in light of the fact that in 4+ years of wearing my 090 rep, NOBODY has ever noticed the accursed date "pimple" !!!!

Could some expert explain what are the difficulties in this progress, if you accept to change the date only winding the crown.

I'm obviously NOT an expert, but my concern is that all of the PAM090's out there seem to use the same Seagull movement (due to the presence of the Power Reserve) and I'm concerned that I will have to make a custom mount for the movement to fit into another case. The gen movement is based on a 7750, but I would imagine that fitting an existing rep dial to the 7750 and throwing it in a case that already houses a 7750 would be more difficult... but again, I'm no expert.
