Re: Breitling Navitimer strap upgrade suggestions?

I just got my dad a Navitimer for father's day. Much to my surprise, he loves it (he never likes anything). However, he's not crazy about the bracelet and would prefer a black leather strap.

What is the common wisdom on Breitling straps? I recall reading one thread some time ago with complaints about the quality of the rep strap. At the time, people were getting ahold of gen straps and putting them on their reps.

Is this the best route? What would a gen strap cost, and is the AD the only way to get one? More importantly, if he orders a gen strap from the AD, would the buckle be included?

What other options are there? I noticed some of our dealers sell Breitling straps separately. These seem rather pricey at $40-$65. Is it safe to assume these are better quality than the ones the come with the reps in the first place, or are the same as the give-away rep straps?

How about the BOB straps? Are they any good?

Any other options?

TIA

Genuine strap with tongue buckle is going to cost you about 150USD.

The rep strap 40-65 dollar you mentioned has the appearance of genuine strap, however, I am not sure how long they will last.

BOB strap can be a good option but it's nowhere near the genuine strap's appearance. Andreww has written a review on genuine Breiling strap some time ago.

Anyway, you can couple it with genuine ostrich strap too... hk45ca has done it and it looks awesome on his Navitimer.

I have an extra black rep strap with deployant buckle. How about a straight swap for the pilot bracelet?

here is my reveiw about the ostrich strap. i got the new and improved rep strap for my bce and it is the same thickness at the edges as this strap. 2.5mm the padding is a little thicker but not the edges. atleast if you use this strap nobody thinks you are trying to pass a cheap strap off as a gen. they know this is an exotic strap when they see it. the quality is very good and these people were great to do business with. this blue is perfect for the blue dial and they also have it in black.

hope this helps,

I have a gen and a rep strap. The replica is very very good for the money! I would recommend it to anyone who has a Breitling and looking for a strap!

I bought one of the rep deployment straps from Trevor and am totally satisfied with it. Thick, "bumpy" upper, decent leather with croc grain pattern and heavy, bold white stitching. The deployment clasp has the Breitling logo and works flawlessly. Mine is black, but I think he also has the dark brown.

It may not be a genuine strap. Nowhere mentioned that it is a genuine article. Caveat Emptor.

Definitly 100% not genuine. It is identical to the rep deployant strap I have. It can be had for $40-$50 from Ruby, Trevor, or Paul. Stay away from these on eBay!

Quick way to tell: The underside is stamped "Cuir Veritable" or Genuine Leather...the genuine crocodile straps should say "Croco Veritable" To my knowledge Breitling has not made a leather croc pattern strap.

Hope that helps.

I bought my genuine black Navi strap through a wanted ad I posted on TZ. It's been a while, but I think I paid $100 plus shipping.

Obviously, if you do this don't say that it's for a rep. They will eat you alive.

The best option is a BOB for Breitling strap:

Nice alternative but I will seriously consider getting the 40bucks rep strap...
