I read some time back the factories were working on new movement for 42mm Pam 655 and the likes. Can anyone provide an update on this?

No, pam655 with a white dial has never been done, and I suspect it will hardly do it.
If you want radiomir 1940 with 42mm diameter your options are: pam512, pam513, pam574 from v6f factory. All of them, most likely, are not produced now, although you can check with TDs, or look for m2m.
