Radioactive lume issues with replica watches

New member here.

Does the lume used in replica watches in the past 5 years contain any radioactive material? I see they are advertised as using superluminova-but has anyone verified this or tested the watch. Were there any issues with this in the past.

Not pointing any fingers here, I just don't have any information on this one way or the other. I am looking for some feedback from more experienced members as to whether this is something I should be concerned about.

Apologies if this has been discussed in previous posts. Tried a search and found some comments about old genuine watches but didn't find anything addressing this issue with replicas in general

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

No watch sold in the last 25 years used tritium mate (other than in gas tube form) and even if it did it's harmless as a google search of the interweb will soon tell you. The case of the watch is more than enough to stop the radiation. Even radium (not used for over 50 years) was almost always harmless to the wearer, it was the girls that applied the stuff who suffered. You get irradiated more in every day life than you would from wearing a dozen Tritium watches. Like anything else radiation is perfectly safe if given the respect it deserves. As I said however it doesn't matter, modern watch lume is luminous not luminescent.

If you follow @replica-watch on twitter you will find a watch lume primer linked to in one of today's tweets that gives an over view of the situation.

Superluminova is not luminescent, it is is luminous. In other words it is not radio active but charged by light not excited by radioactive decay. I suggest you go have a read of one of the many sites you will find on the web by doing a search in google.

No worries at all.
Luminous pigments used in watches are far less expensive than radioactive luminescent materials. So the Chinese aren't jeopardizing the health of both their customers and their employees just to make an extra 4% profit margin.
Well, in this case at least.

Mate if you can get Tritium powder at any price let me know 'cause AFIK it's unobtainium.

I always wondered about this topic. Those Chinese are willing to do anything if it saves then a cent.
Thanks for bringing the topic up!

Hey I'd be over the moon if they used real live tritium lume on the vintage stuff!

:lol1::lol1::lol1::lol1::lol1:... HILARIOUS!!! "Hands down" a 5 out of 5.

@580xlt - Sunlight would have the potential to be more harmful than tritium or any other form of lume.

Thanks trailboss99 and levelmanroger for the prompt and detailed replies.

Looks like I'm good to go--but I'll tell my wife to set aside some egg cartons just in case.

This is quite possibly the funniest reply I have ever seen on RWI
