I am so close to putting myself into an institution, it's not funny anymore. I inquired with Bob Frei about a price on a case assembly and he put it up on his site. The infamous 2531.80 Case Assembly! You ready for this 650.00 Buck roooos! Too much you say? Jonny Cash would follow me on this for sure!

Here are the current damages. My current Modded SMP.

Watch 321 purchase: 150.00
Gen Dial 150.00
Gen Bezel 150.00
Sub Total 450.00

Items to be installed or can be used in a gen case.
Genuine movement 250.00
Genuine Hands 35.00
Gen SS Bracelet 250.00
Gen Rubber Strap 135.00

Total Spent so far $1050.00 (Yes I am sick and in need of a flogging)

Items I still need
Genuine Crystal 150.00
Genuine Crown Tube 20.00

Total to spend on full mod $1320.00 (Yes this is like stupid, I know)

I can buy a brand new one for $1995.00 I can get a good used one for $1500.00 or maybe $1300.00.

Here is the kicker: All of these items I own and are payed for. No bills, no deeds. The 650 dollar question is:
Should I do it? I've gone this far right?

I say do it and then check into the institution...maybe you can get a room next to me. Ahh don't feel too bad just look at it as a way to have an enjoyable hobby while spending too much money....heck I spent $160 for a gen bezel that I put on a $95 WackoBird SMP...very wacko. Some people feel they need to build their own house so they can build it just the way they want instead of buying one like the rest of us. I am not sure the same really applies to Reps, does it? I mean, buying the gen still sounds like a better choice, considering that you walk in the store and pick one up, or worst case wait a few days for it to get to you in the mail and you end-up with the full package, the real thing.
Then again, maybe the fun of doing all the mods a step at a time and seeing the incremental improvements was an important part of this as well.
At the end of the day, it's your watch and you're the one to decide. I am sure it's a real beauty, so enjoy it.

If your lucky you can pick up a used but in good condition for 1500.00 from a private party with box and papers, that's the only way I would do it for this. Authentic watches is one of those gray market dealers and they charge 1995.00 brand new with no warranty card. I like them, they have purpose, but I just gosta have the warranty cards and papers for this Omega. Otherwise I would just order the case assembly and call it gray market. Or just sell the parts and put that toward the gen. (note this is not intended to be a sales thread so don't go there) Send in the Doctor Fakie! :twisted:

Just another info, the markup for case on Ofrei is pretty high. I remember seeing it somewhere other than Ofrei... A genuine Bond SMP case for less than 500 USD. At that time, I was on my quest to build ultimate 007 Limited edition bond... Case is my main stumbling block and I was on the verge of buying this case (less than 500USD).

I ended up getting a genuine SMP.

Update

I have decided for now anyway to mod the following beacuse I dropped this MOFO with the crown open:

#1 Crown tube broke. Ordered and will instal the genuine
#2 2892A2 Gen movement fits but is too high for the stem so I will install the Otto Mondane 2824 to replace the Rado movement which I will send out for service.
#3 Polish and enjoy.

Hey Mando,

If you frequent the Timezone sales forum you can get them with papers and in great shape for 1300-1500 or WOP in 80% shape for 950-1100. Ebay too. If you wait and pounce at the right moment, the average price for a 95% condition is 1398.00 on the bay. This would have papers, box, cards..ect. Trust me I have been tracking them. (the good ones that are gen)

Thanks. I've been taking ebay's and TZ's pulse for about a week (this time around), but no joy so far! I'll post when I do score one..& I will - now I'm determined. Meanwhile I'm waiting on a rep from Andrew (third time lucky?) which should be here any day now. I just can't get the gen out of my head. I love it, and I gotta have one..

Your welcome! I too love this watch, I could not imagine not having it in my rotation/collection. That new black one they are coming out with will be a must have for me as well. People are going to immediately say it's a Rolex and then they will be pleasantly surprised it's an Omega.
