I know nothing about the gen, so there will be no comparison here. I'll only comment on the quality and flaws that are evident to my untrained eyes.
I'll forgo the common knowledge stuff such as how freakin' huge it is at 60mm, and how heavy it is at 285g (10oz.). Hmm, I suppose I didn't forgo them after all.
The watch has presence and can't be missed. I'd say it attracts more attention than any watch I own. As pcsam noted in another thread the strap is very good to be a rep. Obligatory wrist shot:
The crystal has a slight blue AR (not visible here) and works well. I don't know what the material is but it's very clear for its apparent thickness and does not distort until you get to the edges, which I think it's supposed to do. Right?
My biggest complaint is the crown and guard. The crown is the same size as on smaller PAMs, ~9.95mm. The problem is that the CG is scaled up just as the rest of the watch is, which means the CG at the center is about 8.4mm thick vs. the standard PAM's CG at 5.91mm. This difference of +2.49mm doesn't sound like much until you realize that it doesn't leave much of the crown exposed for winding.
The inner edges of the CG are somewhat sharp as well. This photo shows what happens every time I wind the watch. Yes, that debris is SKIN from my finger/thumb! I wind the watch, then blow out the CG.
I couldn't get a reasonable pic of it, but the studs around the bezel are *very* sharp. I thought about breaking the edges but then I decided their sharpness combined with the watch's weight would make a nicely improvised weapon when used with a backhand.
Moving around to the back, everything is good with one exception. One of the screws is not fully countersunk and will not tighten further. Either it's cross threaded or the hole wasn't tapped deeply enough. At some point I'll back it out and see if I can clean the threads up with a tap.
The lume is great for a rep. Actually, it's superior to my others as well. The lume was blasted with a 65 lumen light for about 15-20 seconds, then this photo was a very short exposure. I can't remember what it was but the second hand subdial shows it wasn't very long at all.
The one flaw with the lume that jumped out at me straight away was the 'pearl' at 12. The lume had been applied rather sloppily and looked like this.
I cleaned it up and it looks fine now. Sorry I don't have any after pics.
The last shot I have to share was a just-for-fun experiment. I charged the lume and took a 15 second exposure. The only source of light in the room other than the lume was a blue LED power indicator on my PC. It kinda' made a neat effect.
So that's it, quick n dirty. I hope you enjoyed the quick tour. I really like the watch as both a timepiece and a conversation piece. The quality seems very good outside of what I've mentioned here and everything feels rock-solid. I give it a very positive thumbs up!
