Hey guys, I need your help here.
I am looking to purchase this Rolex 16710. I'm attracted to this piece for two reason - 1997 is the last year with tritium dial and because the price seems decent.
My question is because it does not come with box and papers, how can I tell if its 100% gen and original? I do not want to purchase one with replaced NOS or OEM parts. I'd prefer all original.

Let me know what you guys think. I've been wanting a gen Pepsi for awhile and if all goes well I'll consolidate my collection to purchase this piece.

Only way to 100% certain it's 100%gen is to take it to a Rolex AD.

FWIW that looks to be all original, a nice example.

Who is the seller? , how much are they asking? are they reputable - do they guarantee it's authenticity?

Pay as much attention to the seller as to the watch. Don't buy off Ebay or Chrono24 unless you REALLY know what you're doing...

The seller seems very active on WUS, TRF and Timezone. They also have good feedback from other members on the boards as well but that's really all I know.
Seller does not guarantee authenticity but claims all parts are of original Rolex.
I've purchased gens before but only from ADs. This would be my first time purchasing a gen from anywhere else but AD so any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not in the market for gens as much as I am in the habit of shopping for dream watches, but are trusted sellers on C24 no good?

Well without a link to the seller or the ad for the watch I can't really tell you any more.
If he is active on TRF, with good feed back for watch sales - not just parts & accessories, then I don't think you really have anything to worry about. That said it would be advisable to pay by credit card or Paypal, to get the watch authenticated by an AD as quickly as possible, so that if there are any issues you are covered by PP/the credit card company.

I would ask him very specific questions, such as, where did he get the watch, how long has he had it , does he know it's service history, does he have any reason to believe it's not all gen Rolex etc etc - but without making it sound like an aggressive interrogation obviously....

To me, it looks good, all gen, all period correct, just leaves the movement really - any AD will be able to take the back off to confirm.

I have heard stories of unscrupulous sellers on Chrono24 selling reps/frankens as gens... If you don't have very good knowledge of what you intend to buy, get some advice/second opinion.

Thanks that's some great info I really appreciate it! Yeah I definitely plan to pay using PayPal. If I receive this watch I most likely will take it to a Rolex AD they will not trouble me if I wanted to verify authenticity will they?

"Trouble me " typo ? charge me? I don't think you'll be bothering anybody if you take it in to an AD. If they charge you, most will happily remove the back to confirm a Rolex movement inside without fees, if you want them to go further inside you'll obviously have to pay them.
You should find out when it was last serviced anyway, for your peace of mind... it may possibly be due a service, so 2 birds with one stone - verification and service.
