I had the opportunity to have lunch with Hooligan today, who just so happens to own a gen 000. My H-Factory 000 arrived today, so we put them side by side and compared. There are several noticeable tells on the rep, but for around $200......it's close enough. On the wrist, this one is nigh indistinguishable....to me at least. ;)

Here are some pics.

Tells:
-CG lever
-Dial font spacing
-12 and 3 are slightly different shape than gen
-Caseback on the rep is actually deeper than the gen (but that may vary from model year to model year on the gen)
-CP needs flattening and polishing

There are a few more. See if you can spot them. :)

Ok now call me a noob but which is the rep and the gen ? These are really similar but have very minimal differences. The polished cp is normaly how I spot the gen but I can't tell from the pics.

:D

I'm sure someone will point it out, but that's just how close these PAMs have gotten.

(Here's a hint: If you know about how Panerai numbers their releases, the casebacks will tell you.)

Ok then, let me try by saying the gen is on the left on the lighter savage strap because I don't think the h and n factories have made a H version. The canon pin looks flat, the lettering looks thicker and the lever looks flush to the CG body.

am I right ?

I didn't forget, D!

I didn't say on purpose. ;)

So which do you think is the rep in the first pic?

Thanks,
I went to buy the Gen the other day and after holding it for a few minutes i just couldnt pull the trigger. "The could easily be a rep" kept going through my mind. I knew it wasnt as it was at an AD but still.

$150-170 or so.

Just curious, why would you want one? This one is a base, so high or low beat is not really noticeable, plus it's got a closed case back. The A6497 are pretty solid, and are easily replaceable with a ST36 should the H-factory one die. The ST36 is as solid as they come.

Yah very cool pics. The gen is on the right. Biggest tells for me are the tail on the 3.

The new 000 have a roller ball CG with a H serial caseback? Kind of a fail with the overall construction of they

No, they are reversed in that pic. H series is the gen.

The numbers are fatter on the rep as well, but you'd literally have to have them side by side like this to notice. It is kind of funny that the rep case back actually looks better than the gen. The engravings are much deeper.

As far as "feel", weight is about the same. The gen CG is tighter and the lever has no flop when open. The Noob 111J CG got very close to the gen feel. I haven't handled the 111M from either factory, but I've read the Noob version has regressed somewhat.

Roller ball didn't exist in that year. Now I'm really confused. :(

Wait, I see now! At least I'm right about it if they weren't swiched!

Oh, and the tail. :woot:
