Questions on time setting direction for Rolex movements

Hi guys,

I'm sure this is been addressed somewhere before but just can't seem to find the answer to it atm.

Correct me if I'm wrong but is the SA/SH 3135 the only movement that the time is set by turning the crown clockwise whereas the 2824/2836 (both the Swiss ETA and Asian clone) is set by turning the crown anti-clockwise?

To be specific, I'm referring to Rolex movements (apart from the 21js) as I'm aware that there are other movements that the time is set by turning the crown clockwise.

Thanks in advance for any comments to this :)

You are correct. The SA/SH are the only movements that set the time correctly. The ETA clones work like true ETA and set them "incorrectly" (according to a gen rolex movement)

Thanks for that mate.

Taking it one step further, am I then correct to say that the SH is the more "reliable" choice out of the two? If so, what is the rationale behind this and is there much of a price difference between these two?

Of course I'm aware that one of the main issue with these two is that if and when it does break down, sourcing gen parts would be difficult, pricey and not all watch-smiths are willing to work on them.

The ETA clones will always be more reliable in any case. Both SA and SH "should" get serviced when you receive them. If you're looking for a Submariner I would get the Noob with SA movement. Explorer/OP go for JF with SH, but be prepared that there's a small chance you will need to get the movement serviced on arrival. There are however tons of people that haven't had any issues with those movements, so it's a bit of a gamble.

The SA serviced is what I have been eyeing for awhile after much deliberations on the mods I want.

Obviously the best would be to get the Noob SA (given the case accuracy with the right crown height and all) and swap it out to a Swiss/clone ETAs but with the amount of work to be done on it, I think I might just stick with the SA and slowly build/replace gen parts into the movement should it dies on me.

Thanks again for your input mate. Much appreciated!

That's for the eta clones and Swiss etas.

For the 3135, if you turn the crown counterclockwise the time goes counterclockwise too.
