Hello,
I bought a replica Panerai Luminor GMT from a fellow on Facebook. It’s a beautiful watch but I have 2 « problems » on which I would like your advice.

  • The luminous/phosphoresent only lasts for a few minutes, than it fades out :( That’s shame because I particularly like this on the Panerai.
  • The automatic movement only lasts for a few hours once the watch isn’t worn anymore. Is that normal according to you?
I paid 300 EUR for the watch, with the box, the manual etc.
Thanks a lot for your answers.

Cheapo 23J movement. Its actually a relatively attractive piece, despite the open gears on the power reserve and the bad date wheel. You didn't get ripped off with the box added, but that is pretty worthless anyway. The watch itself is probably worth around $150-200. The lume is vintage, so its not supposed to be radioactive. You can always have it relumed to get it as bright as possible. With regard to the low power reserve, that's just an excuse to wear it all the time!

Lume isn't supposed to last forever, as the intention was to view the time in the dark. So it's bright enough in sunlight for a few minutes but after that it's only legible in the dark. A relume will improve it. As for the power reserve, well a few hours isn't normal but considering the watch, I wouldn't put too much money on it right now as it's not even a real model (rose gold PAM233?) have it repaired/serviced when it breaks, that is if you still like the watch that much.

I think the movement is a modified Seagull ST2530 with horizontal power reserve indicator, it should last you for 30-40hours of power. Try to manually wound the watch 40 times, see if that would crank up the power reserves, just do it slowly mate.
