Hey All, I just acquired a 45mm Rad (black ceramic), love it but I hate the strap, in fact I'm just not a fan of the fit and feel. I am a bit of an AP addict and I've grown a custom to wearing rubber. Now I don't think rubber would look good or even fit properly on the Rad so I started thinking of alternatives with the same suppleness and comfort as the rubber, my conclusion is denim. Now I have never owned a denim strap and from what I can tell from pictures most makers seem to make them in the same way as the leather ones as well as they seem to use a cheap or non premium fabric. I'm looking for a specific wash as well, dark blue/black and in fact have a pair of designer jeans that don't fit anymore and are a premium lightweight dark blue that I am after. I've reached out to Jacob Straps to see if they can make this happen for me, but I also wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions, maybe even know another maker who already does what I am seeking. If I end up donating these jeans for this strap I will probably have a few other things made as well and will have fabric left over in case this is appealing to someone else here. I'll take a picture of the watch on the denim in question to provide a visual as soon as I can. Hope to hear some of your thoughts.

Never considered it. Best thing I’ve used on a ceramic rad was black nubuck croc.

That's right, I had a brown one on a Luminor once, it is a very supple material and may be something I try if I can't get this done. Thanks!

Several denim straps. I just received one from Gunny the other day. I plan on mounting it 2moro, and I'll let you know. It's soft and pliable like a typically Gunny, but it is leather lined. My canvas almost a denim type materiel from Nero is a bit thicker but much much more rigid. It's not leather lined. I've seen several other denim ones out there as well from other makers.

That being said Jacob does great work, and I love his straps. If I had a specific wash in mind I would send him the material and run with it. I've seen some custom denim pop up here from time to time. If you had several made I would go Pam as you'll have the better chance of I resell I'd think. I agree a sample color picture would help possibly get some pre-sales...

Thanks, looking forward to seeing and hearing how your new strap mounts. My next post is of the watch and denim...

This distressed section may not be the area I would want the strap taken from but shows a nice option I think. The darker the blue so it is almost black is my idea, and designer because of the lightweight and soft feel.

Is that ring spun denim? How well will that work in strap? Not saying yay or nay, but curious since that may be a factor in the denim choice of strap makers? It's a question I'd ask.

Side note I think that strap color/style looks good in pics on my phone, but maybe not in real life. Not saying quality because I get it. I'm a strap snob and believe 110% plus a high quality changes a watch to a keeper from a flip.

I didn't even consider the different kinds of denim could affect the ability to hold up as a strap so that is something interesting to consider. Honestly I have heard of but know nothing about the term 'hand spun'. And yo are right, if I don't find the right strap this watch will have to be a pass, it's that important.

Try Steveostraps, his Yachtmaster could be something for you

Interesting recommendation, he has a few very interesting strap choices at really affordable prices. He describes his denim as 'denim suede leather', so I wonder if it can't be done just using denim. The canvas ones all seem to lack refinement and are intended for that distressed look over time. I'm interested in something that will go with the clean lines of the watch and match it's feel in luxury. I've got e-mails out to Jacob and Combat Straps, hopefully they will give me news to share soon.

This one probably isnt what you are looking for as I wanted it distress over time like a favorite pair of old jeans. But promised pics and here you go... i should also mention gunny will do any color stitching on request.

I know you're after denim, but here's a few wrist shots of the gunny as I dont think that 1st pic gives the watch changing justice it deserves

All really nice straps guys but I am trying to achieve the same dimensions as the stock Asso, I think around 3-3.5mm thick and then there's the tapper, all very important to me and add to the overall look.

So Aaron at Combat Straps got back to me and he quoted me $150 plus shipping and I send him the denim I want used. He said he can achieve the same look so I am very hopeful. I'd love to try and get the price down and do a group purchase sharing the denim at no cost of course with other members. Preferably supporters but right now open to anyone who may be interested. I'm sure he would gladly do for other models and makes as well so let me know if you are interested so I can negotiate.

Go to strapfreak.com and see if you see a style that you like. Then go to:

http://www.strapfreak.com/form/custom-order

They are awesome to deal with, and I can't say enough positive things about them. I can even give the owner a heads up you will be contacting them if you PM your name and email to pass along. Good Luck!!!
