Question for Navitimer serie speciale (fighters)

HI Guys,

Has anyone purchased the latest Navitimer serie speciale (sub dials at 12,9,6) from PT recently? Comparing with subdials at 3,6,9. The immediate difference I see is the date font. The date font on the 12, 9, 6 sub dials model look closer to the gen. But the one with sub dials 3,6,9 is way off. The more I look at it the more I like it and it going to be a must have now.

Before that, can anyone please help to confirm because if I'm going to pull the trigger for the 12,9,6 model. Will I be getting the one with the date font closer to the gen or there is another version with the bad date font?

Another question is, is the silver sub dials too shiny compared to the gen? Any comments?

Thanks guys.

both versions have their own set of flaws...

3-6-9 comes in 2 versions. one with bold date font and one with more correct date font. the single digit dates (1-9) are supposed to be rightside up, instead of sideways. the biggest flaw in both versions is the recessed date wheel (due to modified movement).

12-9-6 comes in one version that i know of. the biggest flaw is that the case is supposed to be brushed, rather than polished. also, there is a misspelling somewhere on the casback. the subdial hands were once thought to be the wrong color, but photos of a gen have surfaced showing the hands in both black AND silver so that's not a problem.

both of these watches have pretty major flaws when you know what to look for. however, they both look OK on the wrist so it's really up to your preference. the plus side with the series speciale is the fact that there have been so many incarnations of navitimers over the years that the chance of someone calling you out for a polished case, instead of a brushed one on a limited edition watch is slim to none.

Thanks varock.

I am not bothered by the mis-spelling at all. Just hope to get one with the ETA lookalike date font.

Last question, how many types of dial colour does the Gen serie speciale comes?

Thanks

Don't forget that you have the option of installing a swiss 7750 on the 12,9,6 version too. I think both layouts look great. As varock said, there have been so many incarnations of the Navitimer that virtually no one could point out a specific flaw in the dial or case. The lack of strong AR is the only real thing that bugs me when comparing it to the genuine. That huge domed crystal picks up all kinds of light! All navi's are still a thing of beauty IMHO.

Joshua used to sell the Serie Speciale model with correct brushed case. But that was only with the Swiss movement (if I remember correctly).

I once did a review of the old Serie Speciale rep. Late 2005 or early 2006 I think. That rep is terribly inaccurate and outdated by today's standards... but the review explains some things about this model:

I've never seen a gen Serie Speciale with blue dial. Although there were many versions of the Old Navitimer that had a 'metallic' blue dial.

The big flaw with the rep blue dial is that it is solid, flat blue.

@bytor

Thanks and your review has provided me many info I need. I am all set now to pull the trigger on this one.

@importr

I prefer the black dial actually. Blue looks weird to me. Thanks for the info. :D
