Hi,

i'm new to this board but i like it very much. very informative ;)

i have a few questions regarding the quality of reps. i'm considering buying a PAM 127 rep. these models are build with a Asian UNITAS-6497-2 movement.

cause this watch is quite expensive for a rep, i'm wondering how good the quality is:
- how about accuracy?
- how about the longevity?
- am i able to bring this watch to a clockmaker for service?
- and would he be able to exchange parts and repair it or do i have to throw it away if would be broken?
- is this a watch which is capable of lasting basically forever with proper servicing like the real pams?

i hope these are questions that don't get asked all too often and i'm not boring you with it.

thanks in advance,
yakuuu

PS: oh and if this thread is better off in the panerai forum's (cause i think the answers would be very model specific?) please move it there :)

Moved to Pam section.
Mate a lot of what you ask you will learn better by reading here.

Short answers (I suggest you do some reading and find the long ones).

- how about accuracy? Of the timekeeping or the rep to gen?

- how about the longevity? Very good, the 6497 is bullet proof and should last for years.

- am i able to bring this watch to a clockmaker for service? Yes, the 6497 is the most basic and easy to work on MVT there is.

- and would he be able to exchange parts and repair it or do i have to throw it away if would be broken? If he can't fix it an entire new MVT is well under 100 dollars.

- is this a watch which is capable of lasting basically forever with proper servicing like the real pams? Yes

ok thanks, this is basically what i thought.

i guess i just wanted some kind of confirmation from someone who knows this stuff.

i have one more question:
could there be any problems with the custom office?
i heard that if they catch a fake watch (f.e. a Marina Militare) they have to destroy it. can this happen to replicas also?
or is there no risk involed in the shipping and the bypassing of the custom office?

sorry for all the noob questions =)

Yeah, there could be problem with the customs, and it seems that the borders are more strict in EU, especially to UK and Germany coming from China.

However, even if they catch reps during the customs inspection, it's unlikely that they'll knock on your door as long as you don't buy so many watches at the same time to make yourself look like a re-seller.

ok, i'm from austria.

so there's a real risk that i won't get my watch through customs?

hm, do you guys know how big the risk is that i won't get my watch through austrian customs? or do any of you have experiences with austrian customs?

just don't want to waste 400$ cause of customs.... :/

Here is how it will go down: you will need to search and read about triangle shipment option offered by most of the trusted dealers here. Then read again. Then order your watch with triangle shipping. Receive it and enjoy the piece. Then read some more on your next purchase. Repeat the process till you either run of of money or interest in replicas. Viola.
