Push Button Strap Change System Failure

Just read that the push button strap change system on certain model PAMs is prone to failure and there's no fix for that at all. Then I contacted Vac who is working on one of my watches about it and he confirmed - NO fix.

That kind of changes perspective on strap changes and multi strap ownership all together for me.

Have any of you guys had this problem before. Is it really such a common thing?

A friend had this issue with his V6F - PAM312, after 6 months. Sent it back to be fixed by KW.

Though it left some dings on the case set but might be better than having the whole case set replaced.

There are reports scattered around with a couple of falls. Not sure how common it is, but I personally would stuck with a more secure case design like the luminor with a solid screw holding the bracelet.

Well, I read before that you just have to replace the quick release mechanism, which entails getting the buttons and then inserting them just at the right level (so that the mechanism pushes into the lug bar in normal position and pulls out when the button is depressed). Not sure of the ease of this particular operation though.

Yup they fail, I've had two go. Easiest solution is to replace them with the "screw pin look" spring bars from Panatime.

My brother has experienced this very issue, three times now on the same watch, first time he shipped the watch back to China TD, and hen he got it back. the second fail he tried a local guy, but that failed, so in the end sent it to a member forums next door who managed to repair it successfully.

That's quite unlucky (and lucky at the same time since your brother managed to get it fixed finally). The PAM332 I sent back to Puretime was fixed and still is working to this day.

I have had one that failed and look for the screw pins on new purchases. Can't always get the screw pins on every model so if I buy one with the push pin I don't change the strap or bracelet very often. I have read on Panerai forums of owners that had the failure and usually it means a new case and big $ charged by Panerai (which is probably why they use the push pin system).

Well you cannot get the screw in lug bars on every PAM because certain cases like the 1950s case generally use the quick release system (unless they are made from special materials such as ceramic for example). You just have to live with that risk for the ones with QR strap change systems (or use spring bars to bypass the system).

I know this is a very old thread but does anybody know if it is possible to buy the push mechanism when it is lost? And who can insert fix this then or even remove one from another watch and put it in the watch i want? I am expecting a watch from noob where the push button mechanism is not there. I would like to fix that.. now the straps are hold with springbars you only see a hole at the back of the case. So normally you would not see it when you wear the watch. I am kinda neurotic so want it fixed.
Cheers if somebody read this and has a solution!
