well my raffle winnings from the end of May arrived today and I thought I had better take a quick shot and show it off!

I've only had time to check and grease the crown and caseback gaskets wind it and start the chronograph to see if all the subdials are working. Still waiting to put enough time on it for the hour counter to move forward!

Is it just me or is that date appeture look fantastic? Is it close to the dial like it should be?

I too was a winner of Pts raffle a few months ago and picked the same watch. I have purposely used and reset the chronos on this one many times and it still lines up 12:00 high every time. Also, the date mag is close to the dial, more so than other Asians I have seen. Just my opinion, but a nice 196 from Pt.

Any idea of what he charges for one new, or are there any used around that you know about?

Is there a link of this watch at PT's site? All I can find is the asian 7750 with the wrong date window placement. If indeed this is the asian model at the asian model price with the date window in the correct position, I'd definitely be interested. Does the back have the right daylight engravings?

The date is recessed at least 1mm but I can live with that since I don't know anybody who even knows what a Panerai is.

no there isn't a link to this watch, PT's site is java so you have to go to the panerai section and the 196 is right in the middle of the page there its called the "Daylight Black Pam196"

Lucky guy to win that in a raffle! The 196 is one of my favorites. I recently ordered the Swiss version, and am anxiously waiting for it to show up.

I was briefly tempted by the Swiss one too but I really like the simpler design of the regular pams better than these more complicated models. The most ambitious I get is a Swiss 212 and Swiss 029 on my must have list. I still really enjoy wearing this 196 though I wore it for a whole week straight, even ran the chrono off and on much of the time!
