I've got a SpongeBob 5711 build incoming, and want to get hold of a nice PP box to house it in.

Can anybody please tell me the best source for a quality replica box??

Thx, Andy

The smell is very off putting. But true collectors have the 8 to 10 in one box. I know you want the entire retail experience, but nobody is using retail boxes even for Gen. boxes get thrown into storage as they take up a shit ton of space.

Retail boxes is a part of the experience to make sure you think what you have is worth what you paid for. That’s why the more expensive something is the more absurdly sized the box is.

@andyc : i strongly suggest you buying Gen boxes, maybe even second hand (often they're like new) on eBay or Catawiki, NEVER Rep boxes.

You do want Wood, and not plastic...as @Db9s correctly pointed out, the PP full size box is one of the biggest out there

In this video there is a PP box didassembling to check quality...

They have a chemical smell which most people do not like.
I would recommend buying a gen travel pouch on eBay instead.

I have both a gen and the rep above. The gen has no smell and the logo is mother of pearl inlay into the wood. Very classy. The rep is some stickers applied to the wood, an instant tell. Plus it smells awful.

This is a 5711 Box, the classic big Mahogany Wood PP Box

Alternately, you can choose the Travel Box

Yes, that's the box I'm after - the one in the video, not the travel box.

Gen boxes go for a LOT of money - not sure I want to spend that sort of cash to house a rep!!

This one at Chazingtime looks half decent:

Has anybody got any experience of that particular box? Thx
Hi, I'm much in the same position as you in wanting a nice storage spot/box. Ive just ordered this exact box from Chazingtime. I'll be happy to report back when it arrives as to current quality/sticker situation/chemical smell if you like?

I've a 5711 extreme from AMF I just received and have been looking for a good PP box for around 3/4 months. The rep boxes are crap you have to buy a second hand gen box really. Range between £500 to £900. No idea what is really gen either

As requested, albeit delayed, I now have the rep box in hand and can give a review.

Firstly, images: https://imgur.com/a/SREin7C

First impressions:
It's a complete set, papers, boxes, folios, and even a Patek bag. It's a heavy thing, some 2kg. But to the good stuff:

Outer Box:
It as a great texture, is printed clearly, and feels the part, certainly does not feel cheap

Microfiber Pouch:
Honestly, not great. It is microfiber, and it fits well enough, but the print is flaky, and is already wearing off in places leaving some glitter over the rest of it. I did spot this in QC but honestly, its a cloth that's gonna live in a box..

Under tray goodies:
All the paperwork is for an Aquanaut Traveltime, so do with that what you will. We have a folio containing the certificate, a handbook on the Aquanaut, and a distributor list. All feel and look the part, the folio itself isn't real leather, but the printing is nice, everything fits snug, and is perfectly suited to sit behind a display imo.

The Main Event:
The box itself. It's heavy. It feels solid. If it's not lacquered wood, it damn sure fools me. The wood is extremely shiny, it's really pretty beautiful to look at, the logo appears to be printed then lacquered over, not a sticker as hinted at. The hinges are tight, bordering on stiff, but opening the lid one handed doesn't lift the base, giving it a really nice feel. It's all wood/metal so the feel is pretty bang on, to me at least. The latch has a nice weight to it, it's not spring loaded, but it does stay open unaided, and clicks into place with a reassuring snap.

Inside it's more of the same, the material is just as you'd expect, super soft with a bit of grip to it. The printing of Patek Philippe and the Calatrava Cross is well executed, the cushion is tight (and thus positionable). The removable inner section is of solid construction, fits nicely and certainly isn't going anywhere without prompting.

So, final thoughts:

It's great for what it is. It's worth the money. Looks the part, feels the part, and is a box for a watch. Whether it's bang on 1:1 AAA superclone is up to you to decide, if you'd like measurements I'll happily provide. It's a great place to display and keep your watch, and gives that bit of theatre.

The downsides are (if it bothers you) the papers come preassigned to the Aquanaut Traveltime (this may be something you can request be to changed to your watch, idk), the folio isn't real leather, the dust sleeve was pretty banged up (as it should be imo), the bag is pretty pointless and came folded up/creased, and the microfiber pouch is a bit meh. Oh and the felt on the feet isn't aligned fantastically. No doubt all these things can be rectified should one wish.

But after all that, a review of wood and cardboard, I can confirm, it's definitely better than expected.

(it doesn't smell of chemicals either 👍)

Thanks for the review - it's a lot better than I was expecting! Hopefully a 5711 version might be available.....

Would be nice to pick up the right manual for sure. I've had a scout, albeit quick, and 5711 manuals are $1,500 alone 😂... Crazy...

Maybe the certificate could be printed differently from the TD as a custom order?..

Oh, if you have ever owned a PeePee gen , you’ll know right away when you see the rep box.

There’s lots of ebayers pretending to sell gen PP boxes but they are fake. So careful even spending $1000
